if at&t lost customers over something as trivial as a backordered phone... then they were probably sucky customers to begin with. *shrug* don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya.

You guys really just don't get it.
It's not about the phone at all.
It's about placing the order, being told it's out of stock (WHICH IS A LIE) and not being allowed to cancel the order. If you don't get that, then you're completely missing the point.

Go to My Settings (at the top of this page), Personal Profile, Additional Profile Fields. Your device is shown there, and you can update it to the iPhone 4S!

can you prove your claim? Sounds more like an opinion then anything else. Patience is a virtue, when they arrive, they arrive. Amusing that the same tyoe of claims are being made about verizon also....

But, we won't know for sure until they publish the number for the quarter. Remember, just because someone is unhappy, and believes that a whole bunch of people feel the same and are beating feet, doesn't mean that is really occurring.

While I'm sure some did, I bet the number of people who actually went to Sprint or Verizon because they didn't get the phone on Friday (as opposed to the number who said they were going to do so) was probably pretty low in the grand scheme of things, and probably outweighed by the number of new customers.

Add to the simple fact that service companies already budget for people beating feet, in the industry it is called churn rate, according to reports, the average churn rate for the cellular industry is 3 percent, ATT's currently is sitting at about 1 percent, so they must be doing something right. Doubt the number of contracts that are being etf's out over this will add a 1/2 percent to their churn rate, probably about 1/16th a percent

But by all technical purposes, when you preorder....you do just that. You order before it's shipped. It doesn't guarantee a certain time and date unless said otherwise (which therein it's a legit reason to be upset).
It's not necesarily a lie that it's out of stock. I mean, the one that you ordered online is out of stock. If you preordered in store, then just because that store has some doesn't mean it's for you. I'm not sure what janky store (or incompentent employees) you all have been going to, but the ATT rep told me that if I preorder in store then I would be waiting about 2-3 weeks. Then he said I also had the choice of waiting in line on Friday (of which I could only get one 4s).

It's not about having a new gadget first. My cell phone is my only phone since I canceled my home phone 4 months ago, and it's my only means of communication on a personal level. I email, text and make phone calls with it. I just want to ensure that I have one in good working order and my relationship with the company who provided the device and is providing the service to that device are reasonable, competent and honest people and my ability to communicte with my friends and family will not be impaired. I don't think that's a bad thing.

Would you like a picture of the iphone sitting on the floor at the local corporate owned store?

Well, that's just terrible service. Who puts a $600+ phone on the floor? Would ATT corporate......cover an uninsured phone....in their own store?![]()

They lost me for certain. Sprint has always had the best call quality out there(even with the spotty coverage)(which is getting better). My only reason for staying with AT&T was the iPhone. I'd have to be insane to stick around.

That store is a keeper! I had a rep who was honest with me and told me if I'd let them send the wrong color phone and I had to return it, it might well be problematic. I really appreciate that sort of candor.

I don't understand your post. You say people are told when they order a phone that it is out of stock (Which is a lie). Why would the company lie by telling you something they have is out of stock when in fact it is in stock? Do you think they are holding back stock for "special" customers perhaps? Could you clarify your statemtn please.

I'm not sure who you were refering to...
But if they lied like that saying they have NOTHING in stock when they do, then it is a LIE.
They can say that, we have it in stock, but we are not able to exchange the order if you preordered. The ones we have in stock are for walk-ins for those that have not already placed an order online or via the store.

it is called a display model NOT for resale (most if not all ATT corporate have working modesl of the phones on display) and it still shows abosultely no proof that they are "lieing", my local ford dealer has a 2012 Shebly Cobra Special (display model NOT for resale) on the show room floor, exactly like the one I have on order, but that does not prove that they are "lieing" about having them in stock
Absolutely nothing you claim proves that they have them in stock

So what you are saying is you put the phone above the level of service that is given by the carrier? That is insane as you so put it. Maybe in your world the phone is more important then being able to make a call, but not in the majority of people's world.
Good luck with sprint - by the way you do know that they are reporting on the net that they are sold of of the chep ones and can only deliever the more expensive ones right? Add to the fact they are cdma and abilities you took for granted on the gsm iphone do not work the same way on the sprint or verizon one. Do you due dilligence, sprint has a track record of canceling people that complain to much also - again documented.
