I got tired of reading about all the whining and just wanted to see what some us that understand and accept the AT&T eligibility program are going to do.
So, Just curious.....If still under contract and NOT eligible....
Will you wait, early upgrade, make arrangements to use someone's upgrade, sell current model to cover early upgrade cost, etc?

I did the early upgrade mostly for the autofocus camera and magnometer. I never really used video that much on other phones but the ability to edit really interests me.
I give it 6 months for the first full legnth "made and edited with iPhone" movie is released to YouTube.

I bought the 3G in January. The new features that the 3GS has aren't enough for me to upgrade any time soon. I think the 3.0 software will do 90% of what I was hoping for in terms of additional features.

i was curious as to what a upgrade would cost me. I just joined AT & T and the iphone community the end of January 09. For me, it is not worth the price. I am happy with my iphone. Very, Very Happy. I have been doing just fine without all the features of the new iphone 3gs.
I will wait until my contract is up and see what apple has to offer at the time. There is always something new around the corner.

Take note everyone; this is a LOYAL customer.

I bought my 3G last July, so I'm not eligible for the discount. However, my wife's Samsung has been on the fritz for the past few months and she IS eligible, so I'll use her discount and give her my 3G. She doesn't care about getting the newest technology, like I am, so she's fine with it. Besides going from the Sync to the iPhone 3G will be night & day for her. From reading the forums, it doesn't seem like it'll be a big deal getting my number on the 3Gs and her number on my (soon to be) old 3G. At least I hope anyway. :-)
It won't be at all, just put her sim in and unbrick it in iTunes. Call AT&T first though to change the IMEI and add the iPhone plan.

I bought my 3G last October. I think I am going to wait until next June/July to see if a new iPhone comes out and if it does, then I will upgrade. IF all the new iPhone is give me is Faster processor, video camera and 3MP camera and a Compass, it really doesn't matter to me. I have the 16GB version now and if TOM TOM release their app (I will be mad, because I just bought a TOM TOM about 2 months ago), I have plenty of space for it. I just want the features of 3.0. When AT&T opens up MMS, then everything that I want is there. Cut and Paste, MMS, etc. Now, I am just waiting for Documents to Go to get approved by Apple to have their software on the iPhone/iTouch.

I will upgrade after I see what if any problems people have and also depending up on how things go financially in the next few months.
Not that I need the features but I could sure use a little more memory than my 8G

funny - I know I cqn upgrade to the 3GS at no charge. I early upgraded to the 16Meg 3G the day before the announcement. Spoke to the store about it and they will swap the 16 Meg 3G to the 16 Meg 3GS. This is my first expierence with the Iphone, and right now I am not even sure that I will keep the unit, I may go back to my old phone. The Iphone is very limited in specific functionaly - only 1 Bluetooth device can be paired at a time, had my car, my wife's car, my plantronics and my goldwing interface paired on ym old phone and it would function throiugh what ever was on and discoverable at the time. Now I have to take the time to manually unpair and pair each device I want to use at the time. Been trying to find out of the OS upgrade will allow this functionality, but Apple being Apple, will not release any detailed information to the public.
I am holding the decsion until I see the functionality of the new OS/phone, if the ability is there then I will switch to the new phone, if it is not then I am going back to my old phone. While the ability to pair to more then one device is a minor one for most people, in my case it is a important function of the unit. It is a major inconvience hading to take the time to unpair and repair every time I get out of the car, switch to another car or go out for a ride.
My fault I guess since I just assumed (bad word there) that the iphone had this ability, after all my daughte's cheap sony erickson can do it, I just did not bother to ask the sale person at the store, last time I do that. cannot undertand why the phone has this limitation, it is a ability of the version of bluetooth that the IPhone is running, even a cheap ebook can pair to more then 1 device.

I'm thinking that the next generation iphone will be a completely new design and most likely will have a digital TV tuner build in to the phone so you can watch live local TV. So I'll wait.

If it adheres to the standards, the limitation is part of the OS code, not the standard. Had my previous phone paired to 4 devices and it had Bluetooth 2.0 standard. My laptop has bluetooth 2.0 and it is bared to a mouse, keyboard, phone headset and stereo headphones. Then again no one will know outside of those that beta's the OS since apple in it's infinite wisdom does not release detailed change control information on the patches/upgrades, just pretty pictures with small blurbs of text.

It will be limited due to battery life. If you paired multiple devices on the iPhone it'll shorten the battery life up to 90% depending on the devices capable. I never tested how many devices with 3.0 due to the assumption of consumption theory.

Not a major issue, the only time the unit is not plugged into a charging socket is when I am walking around, cars, motorcycle, office and home the unit is always docked and charging.
Bluetooth is a standard and communications protocol primarily designed for low power consumption, if sniff subrating is in use on the new 3GS with BT 2.1 the power consumption will even be less.
