ZAGGS invisible shield is unsatisfactory *update Pics post#5 [ Edited ]

24 hours since i applied the ZAGG's invisible shield and it is totally granular, i can't describe it other than the surface isn't flat there are tiny granulations.  i wish i could take a good picture of it, maybe other zagg's users can confirm what i'm seeing.

I haven't used them myself because I don't like the idea of moistening a screen protector before applying it to my iPhone.  I've been using the Power Support Anti-Glare film with a Contour iSee and have been very happy with the protection I've been getting.  I do have a friend who uses invisibleshield on both his ipod and blackberry curve and he seemed to be very satisfied with how they were working for him.  I believe he spent about 30 minutes to an hour applying each one so I understand it to be a very meticulous process.  There's also a kiosk in my mall that sells a similar product (GadgetGuardz) and they actually apply the protectors on site while you shop.  It's about a 15-20 minute process per device and they're pretty meticulous about it as well.  Do you think you might've rushed the application a little bit or maybe glazed over some of the instructions?  Because when I saw my friend's gadgets protected, I could barely tell he even had any sort of protection on his devices, let alone see any sort of bubbles.  If you followed all the directions carefully and still had problems I would just send in to ZAGG for the warranty -- I think they have some kind of guarantee but I'm not sure. 

And to the person who's still waiting for his from ZAGG, you should think about cancelling your order and just going to best buy.  I was there the other day and they had several ZAGG InvisibleShields in stock for the iPhone 3g at the prices listed on the website.

i used the front of mine as is, that's the part that granular, not flat, not even, in the right light it shows ridge like dunes going vertically, and also in the light the screen shows vertical streaks that look prismatic....like the screen cracked and you can see light reflect off the cracks....these streaks occur vertically. 

i modified the back portion to not include the top buttons or sides, im using an incipio gel case with outer hard case to protect the back so i only applied the back portion of the shield not the sides just to protect the back from scratches.

but the granular issues on the front screen are not satisfactory, not even and does obscures the screen in the right light conditions.  i will try to take some pics with my imac's photo booth.

if you can see the waviness at the top of the iphone screen, that is present uniformly through the screen protector.  you can also see evidence of the vertical streaks, noted before.

I've seen picture comparisons of the invisible shield and the bodyguardz protectors.  The "orange peel" look is how people describe the invisible shield.  However the bodyguardz has a better look to it.   I think the bodyguardz is the harder one to apply.  I've heard some people using the invisible shield to protect the back and the bodyguardz film to protect the front. 

I think what I will do is get the invisible shield back and get the apple screen protector for the front and call it a day.

Zagg have a life time warranty on their products.  If you feel that you may have received a "dodgy" protector, contact them and ask them to replace the shield.

I installed the rear shield for my 3G iPhone last night and it took forever to install it.  It was the corners that were a total pain.  I will check the phone tonight to see how it all looks.  Any problems, I will be on the phone to Zagg for a replacement.

and if you are not happy, within 30 days, return for a refund. I am going to do that because it just doesn't feel right nor had a easy time applying it. moisturing the phone isn't a problem it's how difficult it is to put the corners right. Instead, I just ordered the Switcheasy Rebel Capsule.

I used small strips of tape to hold the corners down, while the film cured over night.  In the morning I slowly took the tape off and the corners were perfect.  Well not 100% perfect, but darn close enough.  I would recommend trying that, or using something else to hold the corners down, while the film cures.  The whole palming thing did not work for me, nor using finger tips to hold the corners down.

orange peel is exactly how i would describe it also.

I think it's a little bit too late now, it dried and there's a tiny opening between the film cut area, oh well, I learned, it's a good product but pain to put it on. I called it a condom...

BTW, does anyone of your iphone gets a bit hot (warm) more than usual with the IS on the back?

Like you, I also have those prism-like vertical streaks--I thought they either were a defect on the iPhone screen/glass itself or I scratched the glass when I was applying the shield, but when I removed the shield I could see the streaks were no longer visible on the glass.  And yeah--the screen texture of the shield doesn't appear to look as smooth as glass (the one that comes w/ the Griffin iClear case for iPod Touch looks a lot glass-like in texture).

No different to say having the phone in a case.  I would think a case would make the back of the iPhone a lot more hotter.

I know!! I mean I love the feel of it, but its soo difficult to put on and i have all these unremovable air bubbles on mine...took me forever to put it on and it doesnt looks right

I am returning mine...getting a hold of customer service is a nightmare though. My Invisible Shield was shipped to me with no order information..so I plan on including the order number on a separate piece of paper and say I want a refund..but I am not sure if I need to include anything else. I guess if worst comes to worst I will have to contact my credit card company to dispute the charge..ugh. I wish they made it easier to figure out what you need to do. They need to include that information on their website.

I've only done the back of my phone and it looks perfect.  I have a couple of tiny air bubbles, but I'm going to give them a week to see if they come out.  I've yet to attempt the front.

Last week I bought and installed the Invisible shield on my Nikon D80, my wife and daughters Sony phones ( both sliders with a smaller screen than the Iphone ) and my Garmin Nuvi GPS. All turned out very nice and smooth after 48 hours. i am very happy with it on those. The Shoeld does have an orange peel/metallic look to it and is not a good look on the high gloss glass of the 3g. I took mine off and used the protector that came with my leather Case Mate. It is high gloss and very clear. I cant tell it is on it except the edges. I am terribly disapointed with the Shield on the 3G. That said, I am very happy with it on all the other pieces. I ordered all my protectors after reading all the glowing reviews about it here. I admit that it is some tough stuff and looks good on matte finishes, but it just doesnt get it on the high gloss screen of the 3G. I dont know if I will contact Zagg for a refund or chalk it up to experience and eat the $25 for the 3G Shield....

I had a little problem matching up the invisible shield but I do love it after its been installed & cured after a few minutes. The screen looks brighter compared to other cheaper screen protectors. I blew through a $10 3pack of screen protectors that ATT sold which was horrible trying to install, the cleaning solution really makes a difference. There are a couple of imperfections but otherwise its a good product. I only got coverage for the front. I'm still planning on getting a case for the sides & the back of my phone.

Not sure if this will help anybody but tonight I was at a local mall and saw a ZAGG Invisible Shield kiosk.  I stopped and talked to the guy and found out that for $10 they will install for you.  He was just finishing a 16gb white and he let me look at it.  It looked great!  It did have a slightly tacky feel to the surface but he had literally just finished it and it was still drying.  The back, corners included, looked excellent, could barely tell there was a protector.  He went over everything, step-by-step with me showing me how to install.  I got mine in the mail yesterday and my 16gb black will be here Monday.  I'll let you all know how it goes.

I hope they have one in my mall. I kind of wanted to install invisible shield for my Tilt but know I'll butcher the install myself, so I haven't purchased. So next time I'm at the mall, I'll pay more attention to the kiosks.
