iPad Hotspot/Tethering

Hi - I was told that in order to use my iPad as a personal hot spot, I would need to upgrade my data plan from $25/2GB to $50/5GB to take advantage of this feature.  I am a low data user (<1GB/mo.) and would rarely use the tethering/hot spot feature, so the $25 more does not make sense.  It is a feature I would really like to use when I travel so that I could use my laptop in remote areas.  This required plan upgrade seems very arbitrary on AT&T's part, as there is no increase in cost or management responsibility to the company.  AT&T is missing out on my potentially becoming a higher data user by not adding a hotspot/tethering feature to the 2GB plan.  If is not rectified, I will be switching to another provider (probably Verizon who does offer a lower plan) when I purchase the new iPad very soon.  I hope this note finds its way to the right ears/eyes at AT&T to reconsider, as it appears to be a big issue with a lot of subscribers.

AT&T has strict rules for tethering. If you want to tether, you have to pay extra for their tethering plan. Regardless of whether one thinks that's right or wrong, or how much or little actual daya one thinks they use, that's how it is. If another wireless carrier offers a better deal, then there is the option to switch. No one in power at AT&T is likely to see this post and "reconsider".

This is the first I have heard you can tether the iPad on any AT&T plan level.

I am already on the 5GB plan.   How do I turn on Tethering?  Can you share a website that announces/explains this?
