iPhone 3G - Direct Fulfillment Reality [ Edited ]

I am starting a new thread to see if we can get real experiences with the direct fulfillment process. The other thread is over 4500 messages, so most people are not reviewing the older messages. 

My hope is that people will post their information - area(city), model, order date, est. date by att rep and actual ship date. We all know they are back-ordered and that we have to wait.  So, the idea is not to fill up the forum, but to allow people waiting to see if things like the white models moving faster are true and how long the actual wait is right now.  In addition, see if the est. dates from the reps are even close to being right.

Maybe this will help everyone as I know some people are getting their shipments but my store (baileys crossroads, va) looks to be just filling the 7/11 and 7/12 orders now.  Other parts of the country? Any insight?

[UPDATE] See the other thread about people's orders being cancelled - maybe due to debit card versus a credit card? Your card will be pre-authorized for the sale but not charged until it ships. So, AT&T might try to keep a lock on the funds.

I realize this information is from people who received their units, but, hopefully, they will share and give us all some hope.

Order # - Use the order id in the e-mail sent to you or try the last 4 or 5 digits from the order id on your receipt.

Start and End Order #s - just use the number surrounding yours to see where you stand.

I ordered my 16 gb black on Sunday, and the lady only said 7-10 days because at at&t they told me they got shipments for DF's everyday, i live in Bellingham, WA and right now it says my order is off Backordering and still in progress

I ordered a 16GB Black from a Sacramento store on 7/15. Mine has been off and on backorder at least 10 times since then. I was told 7 - 10 days. We'll see.

ordered mine on July 11 at 11am in Strongsville, OH, got the 8GB one, received on July 16 at 11am. Checked and made sure it is all there and not defective unit. A power cycling helped also. So far, loving the phone. A friend is getting one this weekend after he played with my iPhone.

I ordered a blk 16gb on 7/14 in NW DC and was told 7-10 days and everything appears to be on schedule. Not too sure how accurate these "sites" are but I am currently #5 in line and according to recent events I should ship tonight sometime and recieve tomorrow. This has been a truly LONG and PAINFUL wait.

I ordered a Black 16G on July 17 from zip 27105....I am a LONG time Cingular customer...I was told it would be 14 to 21 days but with a wink at the same time was informed it should be more likely just a week. I dont have a problem waiting and have probably read every post in this forum while patiently awaiting my new toy to arrive. I had never posted here but decided to register and post for the first time today....My only negative thought about this process is concerning stores getting new stock for walk in customers while the DF people still wait. I feel that all Back Ordered DF's should be filled before any walk in customer, at any location, should be able to stroll in and buy a 3G phone. At the same time, even as much as I want mine to get here I dont feel it should as long as anyone who ordered before me is still waiting. Especially the brave souls that stood in those huge lines on the 11th. They should absolutely be at the front of the DF line and even given an award. If anything they deserve a plaque stating they survived Apple's 3G launch day lines....hehe....Of course this is just my opinion and mine alone. AT&T and Apple willl do as they please so I will go back to my comfy chair and read about those that were smarter than I and ordered/recieved their new phones before me.....

Maybe I will take this time to go buy a tent in preperation for the 3rd generation Launch Day....

I ordered mine (8gb) on July 16th, I expect it sometime by the 24th century. At the rate this is going, the invisible shield I ordered YESTERDAY will arrive first

I ordered a black 16GB model early Saturday morning, July 12. I was the first one to do DF that day. I JUST got my phone in a few hours ago. It shipped yesterday. It took exactly 10 days, or 7 business days. I was told 3-5. It seems like they're telling people 7-10 or 7-21 days now, so I don't know if it will be low or high end.

As others said, the backorder status means little in the long run. You phone will go off and on backorder, the freight will go off and on backorder, and your payment may dissapear and pop back up when the phone ships or comes close to shipping. Really, the only way to tell is when it ships and you get a trackin number.

my frt is on BO but the phone came off BO this morning, as well as the charge on my bank account.

If my queue # is 1, shouldnt this mean im next in shipping? should i expect the charge to come back within the next day or so?

The queue doesn't mean anything. If you notice people are getting their phones shipped after you as well.

Me and my father both ordered ours 7/17 at around 8:30pm. We both ordered black 16GB. We were told anywhere from 10-21 days to 2-3 weeks (i.e. 14-21 days). We were noticing the trend at that time being a 5-7 day wait period, and that seems to have lengthened to 7-10 days, and maybe even a bit longer at this point.

I am also displeased that I'm seeing some locations receiving on-the-shelf stock before all direct fulfillment orders are filled. Bad move on Apple's part IMO... talk about a customer revolt just waiting to happen.

Ordered white 16gb on Monday, July 20. Was told 7-21 days. Not a problem for me. I have another phone on the Verizon network that works fine so when it comes, it comes. I ordered phone in Massachusetts where I live. I'm in Washington DC this week and visited the Apple store in Tysons Corner this afternoon. There were still about 25 people in line - many had been there all day. I heard a woman in the store who was getting her phone activated say that she had been in line for 8 hours. It looks like they're coming into the stores and all getting bought each and the same thing happens the next day.

Ordered mine today from the West Ashley store in Charleston, SC. 16 Gig black. Was told it would arrive within 10-21 days. I'm not eligible for the upgrade until 8-1-08 anyway. Will update once I have more info.

Ordered 16 gb black from SLC, UT on 7/16.  Was told 7-10 days, but the salesperson said that he was seeing most people receive them in 3-5 days.  It has been 5 business days, and I am 112 on the queue (21893).  I have only seen 2-3 phones received per day for the last few days.

Checked my queue, and I was #109

I have slowly moved up the queue, sitting at #27 today

My bank sends me text messages on charges to my card over $100, and I got a message today at around 3 PM, they charged me!
I figured for sure I'd be shipping tonight, but only one shipped with the 22nd date, and it was after me ( #32 ) ordered on same day as me.

Not sure where I really am in queue, as there are 2 stores in the zip code.

Only been 8 days, so not complaining yet, just the charge to my card got my hopes up.

I leave for vacation on Monday Morning.  It will probably show up when I'm a couple hours out of town!
At least I'll be back within the 7 days they will hold it.

Ordered my phone on Friday, July 11th, 2008 (09:30 AM).
Received my phone on Wednesday, July 16th, 2008 (01:30 PM).

UPDATE:

Checked this morning - status says "shipped" and that phone will arrive in store tomorrow so that's not bad - ordered Monday and received Thursday.
