iPhone 3G - Direct Fulfillment Reality

On July 22 Tuesday around 6pm

In Olympia, Washington

They said the wait was 10-21days Average 11days for the 16gb black at my store

Im on my 8th day now and from these posts it seems like 16gb black takes atleast 12days. So im thinking it will get here after Aug 5. Currently the phone is off of Back Order but the FRT is still 1 on back order.

is there still a temp authorization on the credit card?
call the CC company, tell them you tried to cancel the order through ATT and they wouldn't do it. tell the  CC company you do not authorize the charge.  I'm sure that would do it.

Unfortunately nothing appears on the credit card, not even a hold.  I'd have wait probably until the full amount appears when it's shipped, by that time, knowing my luck i'll be out the cost of two phones and fighting/wasting time with zombie customer service.  I tried the credit card Return Protection which is allegedly supposed to refund restocking fees in these situations, but it explicitly excludes cell phones.

I'm not really willing to get stressed over the ability to get a phone today, so I'm going to forfeit the apple store ticket and wait for AT&T.

I ordered a 16gb blk on 7/25 at an ATT store. Automatically went on backorder. After finding out I might have to wait 3 weeks for delivery I decided on 7/27 to go to an Apple store and purchase my iphone. No lines no hassels. All I had to do was call ATT and take the FAN off of my account. I kept my same voice plan and got the data plan for $10 cheaper than I was already paying. I called ATT had the FAN added back to my account. Then canceled my direct fullfilment order. They should change the name to direct UNfulfillment.

oh that gives me a little hope!  I ordered mine on the 18th as well. 

I'm off BO for the phone but that pesky FRT won't budge and now that we can't check the queues the suspense is killing me.

I ordered a 16G black iPhone on 7/23 from AT&T, then went to the Apple store to find that they had a stockpile of the same phone but, because I have a corporate discount with AT&T they weren't legally able to sell me one. Has anyone else run into this? Is it real? I had the phone in my hand and they said they couldn't sell it to me.

I'm ready to terminate my contract with AT&T but guess I want the iPhone more.

From what I hear I would arrive towards the end of the day.  It appears that some people even get their email saying "the phone is in" before the att store reps are able to open the boxes and prepare for pick-up

On AT&T Order Status site: Still 1 FRT, and 1 Phone Back Ordered.

By entering sequential numbers prior to & after my own I discovered there were 14 people who ordered on the same day, and out of those 14 orders, 6 were shipped on 7/29/08, and 2 were shipped on 7/30/08. Unfortunately there's no way to tell who ordered what.

5 people before me in line, (assuming first come, first served) got their order shipped, while 3 others are still waiting. 3 people after me got their phones shipped, with 2 more waiting after me.

Now does that sound like first come, first served?

But we really have no way of knowing what kind of phone was ordered. Could have been another brand that a cust ordered. Example, my Mom would never venture online to order a new phone, but would go into a store. If the phone she wanted wasn't in stock (ex. Moto RAZR) she would probably ask them to order it....

I ordered 2 16GB blk on the 19th in Smithfield, RI. Both are still on backorder, no charges showing up on my credit card. The AT&T rep gave me an est. ship date of 3-7 day. It's day 12.

Good news! My 16 GB Black shipped today! Should be here 8/1/08 about 5pm, unfortunately i'll be working until after the store closes, and will have to pick up on saturday. Still, It shipped!!! Yay!

So phone was delivered within the 10-21 (business) day timeframe quoted to me...well technically it wasn't delivered within that timeframe since it actually was delivered by the 9th (business) day.

... as of today, 07-31-08, I am #7 on the waiting list
... should be picking mine up tomorrow, 08-01-08 (10 days later)

My store is the only one in its zip code and I have noticed it receiving 10-15 phones per day.
...Of course the white 16g's are shipped within 2 DAYS!!!

Word of advise:
The "BACKORDER" shown in the AT&T link represents all similar phones being shipped to your zip code, NOT JUST YOURS. So, when you see your phone no longer on backorder, "1", that does not mean they are going to ship you the available models if its not your turn.
