Wonder what those folks who kept repeating over and over that AT&T would probably never unlock iPhones (at least not in the near future) have to say now, seeing that the "near future" has now arrived? Granted that there are some requirements to be met before an AT&T iPhone will be unlocked but it is still an unlock...which of course is not the same as saying that "it will never be unlocked"--and yes, you people who kept saying that over and over in all of the previous unlock threads know who you are. And of course some of these same folks will undoubtedly offer that theTim Cook "letter"--which they probably still believe it to be a hoax--and/or the resulting "fallout" from it had nothing to do with AT&T reconsidering their iPhone unlock policy; I mean, do you really think it was just sheer coincidence that AT&T will now start unlocking iPhones under certain conditions shortly after the Tim Cook letter came out? Oh wait--the same folks who kept saying over and over that AT&T will never unlock their iPhones will now claim that they knew all along that AT&T was planning to unlock them but could not say anything here until now because they were under a non-disclosure agreement to not say anything about it...
In America it's called "eating crow".
No it is call looking up the term "forseeable future" and actually understanding the simple definition. At the time the comments where made it was policy and it was answered as such, things change in the future -

It may work as a loophole right now. I would not be surprised to see the loop-hole closed to somehting like having early upgrades wait 30 days or the end or their original contract which-ever comes first before being eligible for an unlock.... Just my guess?

But my iphone4 will be unlocked right? Even I still have 4 months to go under the contract. But I can use the local carrier sim card when I' not in states during the summer.

We do not know for sure since this is so new. If your early upgrade then your iphone is technically eligible for an upgrade. Will they do it before the 30 days so you don't return your new phone? We do not know. We are customers like yourself and a definitive answer from those of us here does not represent what ATT will or will not do.
It is also possible that ATT may say that if you request an unlock, you loose your ability to return your new phone? Apple does that today if you need to go to the Genius bar due to an issue that requires a swap of iPhones. They will tell you that you cannot return the iPhone. We really do not know and can only guess until someone tries it and either gets away with it or is turned away?

I got mine unlocked today. While calling 611 do insist on this forum posting. This program seems to be fairly new and not all reps are aware of this.

Hi,
I'm from Brazil and like Australian guy, I've bought two Iphones 4 when travelling to US in 2010.
I've paid about USD 600 each but both are locked to AT&T since there.
I've heard that AT&T started unlocking the iphones whom contract was already fullfilled. In my case, I even have a contract, so is it possible to have my Iphones unlocked?
Thanks.

call them and find out, the number has been posted numerous times in this thread, if you have a contract as you state then utilize live chat. no one here can tell you, only the ATT service people on the phone or chat can

I'm not a current costumer, even though the rep was very helpful.
maybe u'll have an old account?
I'm not the first owner. I bought it used on ebay (2010).
Maybe the original owner had an old account, I don't know.
I tried to reach him by email but no reply...
It was really fast. She asked my IMEI code and then confirmed it was elegible for a unlock.
She said I must wait up to 48h to receive instructions by email.

I know it is incredibly difficult for you to admit that you were wrong. However, you do not need to continue on with the English lessons.
Get over it. You were wrong.

Sorry, my mistake. I missed the word DON'T, actuallty :
I DON'T even have a contract, so is it possible to have my Iphones unlocked?
According to the replies, the only method to get in touch to AT&T , in my case, is calling them, is that right?

AT&T, why don't you just automatically unlock those devices that meet your unlocking requirements ?
The system you have in place currently is ridiculous...

So far all the success stories I've read indicated that most people got their unlock within hours of submitting a request. In some cases, within minutes. So far a bit more than 24 hours have passed since my request, and I still haven't recieved an email. And my phone is definitely not unlocket yet either (refuses to activate with a foreign SIM).
Is there anyone who submitted a request yesterday and didn't get the unlock fulfilled until sometime today?

I submitted my request yesterday and got the rejection email today, if that helps.
