AT&T to begin unlocking off-contract iPhones this Sunday, April 8th

I have a problem. I've got an email which says I'm eligible and that I have to restore my iPhone using iTunes, but it doesn't work. Furthermore, the AT&T representative on the phone keeps telling its not their problem since I got this email. What should I do?

wrong forum, but it will get moved to the right one and merged

You have to call ATT directly there is no other method of seeing if you phone is eligible for unlock. Check the Iphone forum for the thread on unlock for how to do it

because sending message is not an option to request a unlock follow the instructions below to call them

I am not aware of an address but you could call support directly and use skype to keep your costs down.

Yesss!! I got my phone unlocked today. 

Thanks AT&T for the good support! 

I called first time and they said you cannot unlock your phone.

Second time I called they said give me your name and email... waited 5 minutes and he said it's not possible to unlock it.

Third time it was a girl very good support... she told me to give her  my full name and my email. Then she gave me a case number and told me you will receive it in (3-7 days). after 4 days I recived a email from ATT and they told me your phone has been unlocked and they gave me instructions step by step how to unlock it.

I did buy the phone and didn't know it was locked. I did buy it from someone in sweden and it was locked. Soo Trust me guys you just have to call the right person that's works good. Some of the supporters are flaming and wont help you...

See, I don't get this.

I got the email PICTURED ABOVE, but iTunes is NOT UNLOCKING my iPhone.

What's is going on?? I have restored 3 times, and I don't get the iTunes unlock notification message.

Also I have a GiffGaff SIM which works with iPad perfectly, but I still get no service on iPhone (when inserted).

Then when I pop in the GiffGaff SIM in the iPhone, and connect to iTunes, iTunes states my SIM is not supported.

What's going on? This is frustrating.

If anyone can help I'll be very grateful.

email, messages post on the forum doesn ot work for the unlock request, there is only 1 way

you need to call as only they can determine if you are truly eligible.

Anyone here tried to "restore-unlock" before receive the email and got it successfully unlocked?

Maybe they're dealying the message and the phone is already unlocked, I don't know...

I got the email and everything but im not getting the unlock message when i restore these may be a stupid questions but

I have the 3gs does it need to have the IOS5.1 it currently ios5.01 and when you do the restore is it from the backup you made or is the restore to factory settings

My experience is that it doesn't matter if you resotre from the backup or new.  The "your phone is unlocked" message comes in the middle of the restore process, just after it has reinstalled the software on the phone, but just before it asks you if you want to restore from the backup or as new.  That's how it worked on my iPhone 4.

Also, my experience is that it may not be ready for unlock when you get the email from AT&T.  I think the email only confirms that AT&T has agreed your phone is eligible to unlock and they sent the info to Apple.  I got the email in the morning, but my phone didn't unlock that night.  I tried the next morning and got the unlock.  I think it takes some time for Apple to process the unlock and set it up on their iTunes server.  If you got the AT&T email and haven't gotten the unlock yet, wait a day or two and try again.  If it still doesn't work, then you'll have to call.

It took 12 bore from email to successful unlock. It could take up to 72 hours. I had attempted the backup/restore process multiple tomes before it worked.

Good news is that my other data went down from 1.17gb to .56gb after the restore erased any garbage.

what steps are you doing. I just Right click on my iphone under devises and select back up and then I do the same for restore from back up. There is no middle (unless im doing it wrong) where it asks how i want to restore.

I'll try again tonight after i get off work (evening shift fun) and then again tomorrow mornign if it doesnt work my case date was for the 19th so I guess it may take that long to show up in apples system.

But if someone could give the steps they took to get the message ie what did you do to back up and what did you do to restore that would be helpful to make sure im not missing something some where.Also does anyone know if i need the lateest ios firmware on my phone I havent updated to the 5.1 because i heard that some people were having issues  with wifi recognition and slow speed on the 3gs after updateing to 5.1 I currenlty have 5.01

I plugged the phone in, iTunes started, and I let it backup and sync. Then I selected restore and it started restoring the software. IIRC, the phone went black and then a progress bar appeared on the phone screen as it reinstalled the software. When it was done, I got the message on my computer screen that my phone was unlocked. When I acknowledged it, I then got the message asking me if I wanted to restore from the backup or set up as new.

At least that's how I remember it.
