first - do not post your imei number the cloners love that, free numbers to clone
seond - your help is here
this is the only method avaialable right now - this message wil be merged with the one in the Apple device forum.. You need to call them - period
You can assist them by calling them and answering their questions to see if your phone actually qualifies for a unlock - not all do
Click on the link below, follow the steps exactly as they are documented on the web site to start the evaluation process to verify your phone can be unlock. Pay particlular attention the step that gives you the telephone numbers to call - that is a critical step in the process, without doing that step the whole proceedure wil not work

I called them from abroad for many times, and the system said to "pe your phone number starting with area code" I don't know what is area code ,but I typed both +1302... and 302 and the system said can't recognize and I called about 5 times.

At the second prompt press 0
At the third prompt press 1
At the fourth prompt press 0

What does unlocking it do?
Unlocking the phone allows other carriers' SIM cards to be used in the iPhone. iPhone owners can then get service from a local company while traveling abroad, or switch carriers in the US.

You need to call ATT to see if your iPhone is eligible. Try SKYPE if you need to keep your costs down on the call.

I was really unahppy with the unlock for my 3GS iPhone.
Apr. 16th: I sent an email to AT&T stated that I need to unlock my iphone.
Apr. 17th: AT&T sent an email to me state my case number [edited for privacy] and I have to wait until Apr. 24th.
Apr. 20th: AT&T sent an email to me confirm that my phone is unlocked and follow their restore step.
From Apr. 20th: after many times of restoration, my phone was still not unlocked
Apr. 20th: I sent an email ask for AT&T support about my case. No reply.
Apr. 21st: Another email was sent, still no reply.
Apr. 24th: Another email was sent, still no reply.
I was totally angry. I understand you are busy, but there were 3 emails, and I received none from you? I was suppose to call the customer service, but I was on my oversea trip. With out my working phone, how can I make a call?
I was trying my best to keep myself calm, and post on this forum to ask if you have and resolution for my case?
Thank you.

Hi,
I bought an AT&T locked iphone in Oct 2010 from a Best Buy in Plano/Dallas. Even though I paid the full price for the phone, it was locked and I did not realize it till I came back to my home country India. Over the last few days I learnt that AT&T had begun unlocking the phones and therefore in my most recent trip to the United States, I took the phone to an AT&T store in Colin Creek Mall at Plano. They were a) not aware of the the fact that AT&T had begun unlocking the phones and b) wanted to sell an AT&T connection...
Now I decided to call AT&T who directed me to Best Buy, who directed me to Apple, who directed me back to AT&T. With my patience running out, I decided to call AT&T again. While I got through to perhaps the right AT&T service rep (Which was a test of patience connecting to the right person as they would not register a ticket, unless one has an AT&T phone#) and my ticket was registered, I got an estimated date of completion as 4/23 and did not receive a response by the time. Today, I received an estimated 4/25 resolution time email. However, I am pretty certain that I have come up against a wall as I do not have an AT&T SIM card.
With this background, I request you to redirect this post to the right person. Please note that AT&T and Apple both acknowledge that I have indeed paid the FULL Price for the phone. I am not game for another long AT&T service desk call or a call to Apple, both seem to be an exercise in futility.
Regards,
Manish

A few weeks ago, I called AT&T customer support asking for an unlock for my iPhone. I was told I was eligable and today recieved the unlock confirmation and instructions. I restored my iPhone in iTunes, but my iPhone is still locked. Am I doing something wrong?

This is a customer-to-customer forum. There is NOTHING that anyone here can do to help you. You'll have to resolve this with AT&T over the phone. This forum is not staffed by AT&T customer service agents.

There's NOTHING we can do to help you. This is a customer-to-customer forum. The forum is not staffed with AT&T customer service agents. You will have to resolve your issue over the phone with AT&T. If you need an AT&T SIM card, you may have to see about ordering one or having a friend send you one from the States. Your phone should have come with a SIM, unless you threw it away.

Oh so that's it,? I thought maybe download all kinds of apps & do a lot of great stuff I like my carrier who I'm with so I'll keep mines locked, thanks.
You don't have to change carriers. You can use your unlocked iphone with AT&T for the rest of your life, if you want. All unlocking does is give you the possibility of using another carrier's SIM, either temporarily for travel or permanently for swapping carriers. Also if you upgrade to a new phone and want to sell your old iPhone, you'll get more for a factory unlocked phone than you would for a locked phone.
I really can't see a reason to not unlock the phone if it's a factory unlock and offered for free.

hi everyone!
I have an original iPhone (iPhone 2g) bought from Apple Store in 2007. Every orginal iPhone was locked for ATT.
It is not stolen, have no contract with ATT. It was never used in ATT network, nor activated in iTunes for ATT.
Is that phone eligibile for unlock, according to last ATT iPhones unlocking rules?
Thx.
