Hello everybody I've got an iphone 4 16GB as a gift from US. I'm in Israel. I wish to unlock my iphone so I can use it here in Israel with Israeli simcard. I'm not a US resident so I don't have A&t account. All I've got is the iphone and an At&t microsim card. Ive tried to contact At&t by phone they didn't help me and kept asking for At&t account.. Any body please can help??

Can I open such a account?

You have to get your friends phone number and account info and call AT&T, or have them call AT&T, and request the unlock.  Posting in this forum will not get AT&T to unlock your phone.

Too bad, I am the same case, but I am lucky to get AT&T unlock because I called early before they changed the policy, still unlock for people bought it on Ebay and Craigslist.

It can't be ANY account, it has to be the account associated with the IMEI of the phone that you have.
NO ONE is going to give out their account info and access.

If you are not the original purchaser from ATT or Apple contact that person as they need to help you.

Hi there!

The only way to successfully unlock your iPhone is by dialing 611 and getting in touch with Customer Care. However, please keep in mind that there are a few requirements for unlocking an iPhone:

1) The iphone must not be associated with a current 2 year contract term; or must have paid the Early Termination Fee

2) Must be in good financial standing

There are a few more important requirements but these are only a few.

How I can manage to unlock my iPhone 4 without an AT&T contract? I bought it in US without a contract (by Paying 652$) but locked. Now I'm living in INDIA and want to unlock it, but everytime I'm trying to access live chat, or get any support, you're asking for an Account (Phone number, billing address or whatever) but the problem is I don't have it, i still have a sim card but it doesn't work in Russia so it's impossible to find out what number it is (if of course there is one, because to my mind if u don't have a contract then u don't have a number too, right?) :-(

thsi will be merged with the other thread but you need to get skype and call them, that is the only method open to you. You will need to supply a copy of the invoice showing that you paid full retail price from an autorized dealer.

i did that , i call them up, but they told me that i should have account with them, then only they are going to help me to unlocking the phone. and also advice me to contact apple store , i did that also they told me to contact AT&T as it is locked with AT&T, and they are not able to unlocked it.
So what should i do now????

There is a possiblity that the phone will be unlocked even without an account, but you will need to supply a receipt showing that you paid full retail price for the phone at an authorized dealer. You should be able to bypass the account menu on the phone call with the following prompt response to the questions 0 0 1 0 The "proof of purchase rule is at teh near the bottom of the rules. They are right, only ATT can initiate the unlock and they will do it only if the device qualifys to the rules

Here is the current policy for unlocking a iphone, review it to see if you qualify

Please read the posts above yours. You need to call AT&T directly posting here will not start anything. If you are not an AT&T customer or were one or you disk not pay fiume price at an authorized reseller, try selling your iPhone and buy one that works for your country.

yes, get skype, call att to start the investigation into the ability to unlock your phone. You will need the phone number or the account that was associated with the phone's IMEI number when it was on the ATT network or a invoice showing that you paid full retail price for the iphone from an authorized retailer (ebay isnot a authorized dealer)

if you look at the last few posts you will see the eligibility requirements for att to unlock the phone, you wil need yo get s skype account and call the customer support line for ATT and supply them the required information that is documented in the requirements, they will investigate and after it is completed you will recieve an email stating that the phone is eligbile for unlock or the request has been rejected.

Look back at the previous posts on this thread and all shall be revealed to you on the proceedure to unlock your iphone, providing you can supply a att phone number that was attached to the phone, or a account number that the phone was attached to. Failing that you will need to supply a reciept showing that you paid full retail price from a authorized dealer (no ebay is not an authorized dealer). The firt two steps is to get a skype account if you are outside the US, the second is to use that account to call them. No one on the forums can assist in the proceedure except to tell you what to do.
