Let us know how it goes because according to Apples own website Newegg is not listed as a authorized Catalog or Internet Reseller.
But if they are not then that brings the question where do they get their supply? There is no second Apple wholesale distrubtor to get them from as Apple itself is their one and only distributor.

the have to be some how authorized, they sell new macs and other Apple equipment, apple would not stand by and let them do it if they where not on the approved list. Apple is not known for their tolerence in greymarket dealers, then tend to bury them quickly. Newegg sells the complete line - Mac's Ipods, Ipads. That link does not look complete, for example Best Buy is not listed and they are a authorized dealer, both for internet sales and brick and mortar

I did send an email to NewEgg asking if they are an authorized dealer and they replied back (in about 5 minutes!) saying they are. I guess I should really be asking Apple though but not sure who to contact after looking at their contacts page ...

I agree with you just weird they are not listed anywhere on their site. As far as best buy there is a spot where you can check for dealers by zip code and Best Buy is listed but still no mention of Newegg. But I agree with you that htye must be because they have to be getting their supply directly from apple. Plus I have not known Newegg to be selling items they are not actually authorized to sell.

It's too bad, if you call AT&T early, they unlocked iphone for you even you are not customers, but there are too many people calling, so they changed to limits to AT&T customers only.
So maybe better not to buy iphone anymore if it's difficult or impossible to unlock.

No! Just by one that is already unlocked or one meant for your market. ATT probably spent lots of resources helping those who have never had a relationship with them. In small amounts it is not bad to do. The volume in the beginning probably burried them at the expense of their current customers.

Dear sir/madam,
I come from China and not a resident of U.S. Recently, I received a used iphone 4 as a gift. unfortunately, I didn't know it's a locked machine of At&t, I upgraded to 5.1.1 and it turned out ot be a beatiful BRICK. I don't have ATT ccount and stay in China. I have written several emails to the customercare center and they said I have to get Att account to unlock it. Therefore,
I hope someone here could help me to solve this issue. Thanks a lot in advance if someone helps me !!

In August 2010 I traveled to the USA and bought iPhone in Apple Store (699$).
Together with Iphone I was given the SIM card AT&T.
I didn't use the SIM card and I have no number. I have ICCID number.
I have confirming documents of purchase.
I would like to unlock the Iphone, but I can't create At&T account because my SIM it is not activated.
I try Activate my sim (https://www.wireless.att.com/activations/ to me assigned number 9177690389) but SMS with PIN doesn't come to me (I am in Russia) and i can't create account AT&T.
Please help me to activate the SIM card or to unlock phone.
P.S. My English very bad and when I call on skype communication very bad and me isn't possible to talk to the manager of AT&T

ATT is strict on the unlock policy, if you cannot supply the required information it will continue to be a brick for you. Basic requirements are
1. The att phone number that was assigned to the phone when it wa under att contract -OR-
2. The att account number that the phone was attached to when it was active -OR-
3. a invoice showing you paid full retail price for the device from a authorized dealer (Ebay and craiglsit are not authorizied dealers)
If you can supply the required information, activate a skype account and call Customer Support: 1-800-331-0500 to talk to them about starting the review process to see if the device is eligible for unlock. Please not that calling is the only approved method, no one here can assist you at all. this is your only resolution path
If you cannot supply the required information then it will not be unlocked

for the unlock you need to supply information to att for them to determine if the phoe is eligible for unlock
1. The att phone number the device had on it when it was under att contract -OR-
2. the att account number that the device was attached to when under contract -OR-
3. a reciept showing you payed full retail price for the device from an Apple authorzied sellor
If you can supply any of that information then get a skype account and call ATT customer service at 1-800-331-0500
to start the proceedure. There is no email or website you can go to.
If you cannot supply any of the above information you need to handle it through Amazon and the sellor since they advertised the phone was unlocked.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I would really like to officially unlock my iPhone 3Gs. My name is Vitalii, I bought this phone on eBay, but I'm not the resident of USA, so I can't use it with local operators. , i tried contacting AT&T via live chat, but had no luck.I will really appreciate your help on my problem.
This is going to be moved tothe right forum and thread
to be able to unlock you are required to call ATT, there is no alternative, if you qualify they will unlock the phone, if not then they won't. The following is the requirements
1. The telephone number that was attached to the phone while it was under ATT contract -OR-
2. the account number the device was attached to when under att contract -OR-
3. a reciept showing that full retail price was paid for the device from a authorized dealer (key word - authorized dealer here, Ebay and craiglst are not authorized dealer)
After you gather the information, call ATT customer service and start the investigation process, you will recieve an email telling you that the phone was unlocked or the unlock was not allowed.. Calling is the onyl method, if you cannot supply any of the required documentation then the phone will probably not be unlocked, but you can call if you want to.
If you are outside the US, get a Skype account to make the phone call.
