Can anyone help me to unlock my Iphone 4 I purchased from EBAY? I'm living in SAUDI ARABIA and I'm trying to use the local carrier.  Please confirm that the phone is OK to use here? The following DATA applies for the phone:

FIRMWARE: 04.12.01

If the phone is not stolen or anything, let me know what I have to do to use it? If it is stolen have the owner contact me by e-mail, and I'll see what arrangements can be made to return it. It's not any good to me if I can't use it.

There is absolutely no way to handle it other then calling them. If your phone qualifies for a unlock then you can get skype and call them. To qualify for unlock you must meet at least one of the following criteria

1. Have the phone number that was attached to the device when it was under ATT contract -OR-

2. Have the ATT account number that the devices was acitvated on -OR-

3. have a receipt from the authorized dealer showing you paid full retail price for the phone (in most cases ebay and craigslist are not authorized dealers)

Get a skype account, call att Customer service at 1-800-331-0500 and request the unlock process start, you will need to supply at least oneof the above requirements.

There is nothing that can be done here on the forums. You need to call Att at the number below.  You can use Skype to make your call to keep your costs down but they determine if you are eligible to having your iPHone unlocked.

Я прочитал все 45 страниц и понял что сейчас возможна розлочка только для клиентов или бывших клиентов AT&T. Можно ли как-то это обойти, не знаю.

Surching Web I stumbled over a few sites that offer an official AT&T unlock, but as you can guess, they charge money for that.  One russian site states that they can do it and you don't have to be AT&T customer, you don't need AT&T sim card and there is no need to show any proof of purchase. I just want to know what you guys (gurus) think about that? Is that really possible that some UK or Russian companies can bypass AT&T official requirements? To me it sounds like a scum.

If you look a few posts above there are numerous replies that tell you exactly what is required and what number to call to start the investigation into seeig if the iphones you have are eligible for unlock.

If you cannot supply the information you are pretty much out of luck, the unlock of the att iphone is not a sure thing, they can and have refused to unlock the phone.

Peter - your phone may have to be requested by trhe original owner of the device that had it on the att contract, hopefully you sitll have contact with the friend you got the phone from or else you are out of luck

Genchik - call ATT using skype and the number that is listed in other posts and start the process, thety will require you to send a copy of the invoice showing you paid full retail price from an authorized dealer. Apple sells three different skews for the iphone,

 skew 1 is the subsidized version that requires a 2 year contract,

 skew 2 is the no contract version that does not require the 2 year contract and is sold at full retail price,

 skew 3 is the factory unlocked version

Skew 3 is recent, sound slike you where sold the full retail locked version,

Also, not a smart idea to post your IMEI numbers, cloners love them. The only method of starting the process is via a phone call, so limber up SKYPE and dial

they are not Apple authorzied unlock formats, they may or may not work and continue to work after a IOS upgrade, if they don't then you are out the money you paid for them, the old adage - you get what you pay for it true here, expect to be ripped off.

There is no international regualations that prevents these places from operating and advertising these types of services, use them at your own risk and hope you are not ripped off by them, but I doubt it.

They actually claim that they do it remotly. So it's not any jailbrake or anything else. The risk is that you pay money but never get any unlock. They probably don't even have to file it. I asked how they do it and got a reply that they have an AT&T account. I've read requirements and know that every account is limited to 5 phones per account. It still sounds like a ripoff.

pick which you want to use, your choice -  there is a good chance that if you update the IOS your phone will lock back, Apple needs to be invovled in the unlock of the Iphone, and somehow I dount that these websites have an agreement with apple, the one site I was aware of in the US was taken down by Apple and their professional serivce representitives

Sounds like you bought a no contract phone rather then a unlocked phone, did you get it directly from an apple store - since they are the only ones that where selling unlocked phones. No Contract and Unlocked are two different things

@nonnyna - Call AT&T at the number below. They will not do anything based on your post. It is most likely not going to be unlocked since you are not a customer of AT&T and you did not buy it from an authorized seller at full price.

It may be time to seek out eBay as a seller.

Your Reciept from eBay is worthless to them. They would care to see a Reciept from an authorized seller. See other posts here outlineing the requirements and conditions for having an iPhone unlocked.

Be prepared that they will not do anything. If the eBay seller advertised the phone as being unlocked, dispute the transaction or get the seller to call att.
