It is not that the phone is out of warranty it is that the phone is no longer under contact and that YOU are or have been an ATT customer.  A contract with ATT is for 2 years or you terminated that contract by paying the ETF.  what IMEI.info says does not really matter in their decision.  Read the instructions here: http://forums.wireless.att.com/t5/Apple-Community-Discussion/iPhone-Unlock-Information/m-p/3260825#U...

I have bought from ebay iphone 4 , 1 year ago so the contract should be ended . so i want to unlock my device so i can use it  

now . but the problem that at&t are requering the phone number and the name of the owner and i dont have that . I have only the phone

Of course, I understand that information about phone from IMEI.info does not really matter in decision of AT&T. It's the information about that the 2-year contract with this company has ended. So I hope AT&T can unlock my iphone!!!

If the two year contract that ended was in your name and the phone was on the account you should have no issue with getting it unlocked - if the contract and phone was completed under another person, you where never a customer of att and you did not pay full retail price for the phone from a authorized dealer then chances are it will not be unlocked, ebay, craiglst, phone resale sites are not authorized dealer

I know about some cases when the company AT&T solved this problem positively. What weighty reason can have this company to don't unlock my phone if I CANNOT be its client physically. I want to believe that the company AT&T will act nobly and "will release this phone on freedom"

ATT is taking care of their past and present customers in your case you do not sound like you are one or have been.  Posting here will not change their answer all we can do is continue to direct you to calling ATT as they are the only ones who can help you and if they say no, our opinions about what would be nice does not matter.  ATT defined the rules and if you qualify then great!

If not, consider selling your iPhone to someone who can use it and buy one that works for your area.

the decision of att is as stated - if you do not meet the qualifications the phone will not be unlocked. There is no exception,

We are customers of ATT and do not have access to the system that authorized an iPhone to be unlocked.  other than provide you with the criteria and have you call ATT there is nothing that we can do.

unfortunatley unless you paid full retail price for the phone from a authorized dealer you really have no recourse. You can try and track down the sellor to see if theywould be willing to process the unlock for you.

I live all the way in the middle east but when I got the phone , there was at&t sim in it, I dont know the number nor the person I bought it from...

I want to unlock my iphone please , and I am in the middle east if it is up to me I will use at&t but I cant

If you do not qualify, sell your iPhone on eBay and buy one designed for your country.

Scan your invoice and ask ATT where to send it to. Your situation is just like the other 1000 posters here.  if you qualify and if you can get the reciept to them and it is appropriate, ATT will unlock your iPhone otherwise you need to find a iPhone that works for your network.

You need to call them directly, nothing can be done over the forums or live chat. Get skype and call them they will give you the list of the required documentation you will need to supply for them to determine if the device is eligible for unlock, it not a sure thing, if you cannot supply the required information the phone will not be unlocked and there is no recourse

it is not the IMEI number that you need to supply,  this is what is required

1. The att phone number that was assigned to the phone when it was under contract -OR-

2. the att account number that the phone was under during the commiment -OR-

3. a paid reciept from a authorize dealer showing you paid full retail for the phone

If you bought the phone or ebay, craiglist, a local resale shop and you have never been a customer of att with that phone your chances are slim that it will be unlocked.

chances are you will not qualify for the unlock, you need supply the following information

1. the phone number that the iphone was attached to under att contract -OR-

2. the account number that the phone was attached to when it was under att contract -OR-

3. a sales reciept showing your purchased the phone at full retail valuse from an authorized dealer

If you canot supply at least one of the above requests chances are the phone will not be unlocked. If you can, then call att customer support and have them open a ticket to verify the information. If you are outside the US you can utilze a skype account

no idea with the gevy card, bottom lines -

1. did you physically have an account with att and the iphone - or where you a customer of ATT with the iphone

2. if no did you actually purchase the iphone from a authorized dealer for full retail price or did you buy it 3rd party used

If you never had an account with att that actually had the iphone you are trying to unlock on that account, then that is the reason they will not unlock it - it is that simple. They will only unlock for the phone for people that where actual customers of att with the iphone or paid full retail price from a authorized dealer and fax them the paid bill

I was given a AT&T phone by a friend as she upgraded to a 4S. She is still a customer of AT&T and contacted them regarding unlocking the phone that she gave me. She has recieved an email that she is eligible to have the phone unlocked but when I run the restore programme on the phone it comes up with the error that there is no sim card in it which leads me to believe that AT&T have not unlocked it yet,.

Who can I contact to have this checked out as I live in New Zealand.
