anton697 wrote:Suspect that more than a few of these <3-post users posting requests to have their iPhones unlocked are either:
1) Non-AT&T customers, since if they were indeed AT&T customers they'd be smart enough to know that the appropriate method for requesting an unlock would be to contact AT&T via phone or chat, rather than posting a request on an online forum that does not handle such requests at all;
2) Folks looking to make a quick and/or small profit by selling their previously-locked iPhones
I mean, there was at least one post from a user who explicitly indicated that he/she wasn't even an AT&T customer, yet was asking as to whether his/her AT&T-locked iPhone can be unlocked. Unless I'm mistaken, at a minimum you must be a current AT&T customer before you can even begin to ask AT&T to unlock your iPhone, regardless of whether the iPhone that you're looking to get unlocked is currently locked to AT&T...no?
Several non-AT&T customers have gotten their phones unlocked - or at least they had the ticket made. Since the policy does mention you can get an unlock after paying an ETF, you probably don't need to be a customer.
True, but if you think about it, you'd have to have been a customer in order to get to the point where you'd be willing to pay the ETF; guess my point was, if you were never an AT&T customer to begin with, then I would believe there is no way AT&T would be willing to unlock your iPhone. For someone to pay the ETF, he would have had to have been an AT&T customer, no matter how brief a time that was.

I purchased the 4 & 4S on their respective release days, like Underlyingsound, and I was able to get my 4 unlocked.

I can verify that this won't work. I bought my iPhone 4 in June of 2010 when it became available. I was eligible to upgrade in June of 2011. I purchased the iPhone 4S in October of that year. My iPhone 4 is STILL not eligible to be unlocked until June of this year. I'm assuming, neither will yours. You'll either need to pay the ETF now or wait for another four months.
I don't think that's true. I also bought my iPhone 4 in June 2010, was eligible to upgrade in November 2011, and used the upgrade to get the 4S. I called yesterday, and AT&T confirmed my 4 was eligible for unlocking, so as far as AT&T is concered my 4 contract was fulfilled, even though the 2 years weren't up.
However, the OP is asking if the unlock can be used immediately after upgrading. Can't answer that as my upgrade was months ago, long past the point of being able to take the 4S back.

posting on the forum will not get anything going, there is a single method of starting the proceedure to see if you can unlock the phone if you do not have an active account - you need to call ATT, there is no other method of doing this.

It's strange many people posted their IMEI of iphone and thought someone can help to call AT&T to unlock. I don't think it's possible to do it for other people. So I hope those people don't want waste the time to post your IMEI no here and hope someone can help.

Hello!
Tell me please, how can I unlock my iPhone4 AT&T, wich was bought for me for full price in US, as a present, without a contract. I live in Russian Federation, have AT&T sim, but don't know my wireless number, so i can't call your services and register for chat with your managers to speak about my question.
Thank you very much.

Windgrinder if the people outside the US try and email AT&T through that link somehow
it goes through to prepaid department and they cannot help I know this cos i did the same last year ![]()
My advise is for those with iPhones locked to AT&T outside the USA
to ring the number Windgrinder has mentioned
it is upto to you people to call and stop spamming the forum with
I WANT MY PHONE UNLOCKED
Use Skpe as its free or call via landline as its not expensive to call the USA
especially via the UK it's not anyway you can also purchase International call cards
so please stop making up exscuses people and do as mentioned!
