smtp setting for tethered iphone4s

Hello,

I am using iphone tethering to connect to my laptop. I want to use my email but I get errors with the smtp server. I am unable to send emails. I am using a non-att smtp server and it will not connect to send my email. All the settings are correct. Do I need to use an at&t smtp server? If so, what are the settings? As far as I know, I don't have an at&t email account. Do I get one with my iphone service? Please help!

depending on your mail provider, they will not allow sending mail unless you connect via secure connection and authentication. You can try playing with the settings to see if you can get the right combo.

what email provider are you trying to use? each one has a different smtp and pop server. fro example

gmail

Incoming Mail

pop.gmail.com

set SSL to Yes

set port to 995

Outgoing mail

smtp.gmail.com set to Use authentication

set port to TLS/startTLS to 587

Port for SSL is 465
