I have a bunch of recorded shows I would like to watch on my iPad. I can bring them up, but when I tap the episode, nothing happens. I only see a delete button next to the episode. How do I play recorded episodes on the iPad?

You cannot play programs recorded on your DVR on the iPad.

Why can't I play them from my DVR via the Wifi then? I'm just trying to wrap my head around why anyone would make an iPad app that will show me what my recordings are, but won't let me play them. Is this some beta release of the iPad app? Are they fixing this really soon? I just ended my Netflix instant play subscription thinking that I wouldn't need it anymore, but this U-verse app isn't working out at all for me.
Can someone at AT&T please answer this? I'm not sure what this U-verse app is even supposed to do if I can't play my recorded shows. Do you guys need help? I know a really highly-regarded iPad guru who does contract work on the weekends, and he could probably fix it in a few hours. He's pretty expensive, but he'll get it working again for sure.

You can use your iPad to manage your recordings. Add new ones. Delete old ones.
Plenty of reasons why you might want this. You might like this interface better than the TV. All your TV's may be busy being viewed (including by you) and you don't want to interupt one to change recordings. You may be away from home and realize you might not make it home in time to watch something and can set the recording on your iPad.
You can also see what you have recorded and see if it's in the download library and watch it from the download library.

I understand why I should be able to manage recordings on the iPad. What I don't understand is why I can't WATCH the recordings on the iPad. It makes no sense.
I've used the Netflix app for a while now, and honestly, I didn't think a TV/movie viewing app could get any worse. AT&T proved me wrong. The AT&T U-verse app crashes at least 20 times more than the Netflix app, the AT&T app doesn't have subtitles, there's things I should have available to watch but I can't (my recorded shows), the AT&T app randomly goes black in the middle of watching shows saying the connection isn't strong enough??? It's the same wifi connection my Netflix app uses, why doesn't Netflix have a problem like that?
Seriously, I can't believe someone in their iPad team went through all the trouble to add in the "feature" of being able to manage recordings, but not play them. Did not a single engineer speak up at any of the team meetings? Did no QA person ever log a bug saying "Hey there's no "Play" button on this screen"? Did no project manager ever proofread their requirements to make sure this recording feature made any sense to a real life user? And I simply can't believe I'm the first actual product user to bring this up. I just started using this app this week, surely someone has pointed this out before? Why hasn't it been fixed already?

Just because it doesn't have all the features you think it should have, doesn't make it worthless. The iPad app you're castigating started life as a Smartphone app, it was ported to iPad and the screens adjusted due to the additional space available on the screens, but it's still the Smartphone app. Which probably started life when someone said, "Why don't we port the Web Remote Access feature to the Smartphone platform."
AT&T has been awfully reluctant to allow their content to be consumed by anything other than their locked down set tops. Why should the iPad be special in this regard? Heck, when it first came out iPods couldn't even download and watch the video like an iPhone could.
Yes, the reliablity for what video it does do could use some work. You think it would better if the DVR was the server? It is what it is. Sure, it could be better. You can let AT&T know it could be better. But, dude, shake the attitude.

If the desire to make more money develops enough perhaps, some day, it will be included with a package such as HD+.

After almost two years they haven't even added what the genre (comedy, drama, action, horror, etc.) to movie descriptions.
Do you think iPad app would work as advertised.
If it won't work, don't put a play button on recordings! This just waste our time, and makes people mad!
The app clearly states that I can play movies and tv show.
This app hurts u-verse much more than it helps it. Have you even looked at the reviews?

I am confused. My iPAD U-verse app does let me play Movies and TV Shows. It is from the OnDemand Library (not the DVR). Does that not work for you?

It is very confusing because there are so many variations & they are all different.
Looks like this difference is between "download and watch" and just "watch".
I am using the 2.6 version for iphone because of the remote. On this version it has download & watch blocked due to contractual obligations. It says some other app allows watching - must be the one you have.
I have a number of problems with the one that works. It shows all available (i.e. higher numbered plans) & says I need to upgrade to watch.
I do not want to see these. It is hard enough to find something to watch without showing things I cannot watch.
I guess too many people say I must watch that & upgrade on impulse.
