AT&T No Longer Supporting Blackberry 8800!

RIM says it has sent software version 4.2.2 to AT&T, but AT&T is not releasing it for the 8800.  This software is needed to use many of the features offered by the 8800, such as A2DP support for Bluetooth wireless stereo headphone support.  Instead, AT&T is making users buy an entirely new Blackberry to use such features, seeming to abandon all concern for the countless users to whom it sold 8800's!

That's not a live link (I get this this message: You've entered this page in error because you have the incorrect link. ) and the software version RIM shows as current for the AT&T phone is 4.2.1.79, not 4.2.2.  When I called RIM, they said it was up to AT&T Wireless to provide the updated software, which has been sent to AT&T.  AT&T apparently decided not to support the unit any longer.

It is not uncommon for there to be a delay before a provider issues an updated release from RIM.   Try this link and click on downloads:

A little delay?  4.2.2 has been available for something like 6 months!  It's presently available for the Curve!  So AT&T is just forcing people to buy a new phone (the Curve) to use features standard in the 8800, instead of doing the responsible thing and releasing 4.2.2 for the 8800.

IMHO, there is a duty to support a product into which a customer is locked for an extended period of time. 

As for the link you provided, same old, same old.  That link just directs one AT&T for support for the 8800, which shows 4.2.1.79 as the latest software.

What they have available is 4.2.1.79, NOT 4.2.2.  Only 4.2.2 supports A2DP, which allows one to listen to music using a Bluetooth stereo headset.

Like I said, 8800 owners apparently have been blown-off by AT&T.

Who says you need to download from AT&T at all.  Do some searching and locate the software elsewhere.  I have yet to download software from AT&T and yes I have the 4.3 OS on my Pearl already.

I agree whole-heartedly with what you are saying. I have been an AT&T customer for 8 months, and they have already screwed me out of updates. A2DP would be nice, but the main thing I want is Folders for the desktop to organize your icons. It's pathetic they are holding out 4.2.2 (and probably 4.3) for 8820 users. Apparently I am already obsolete as a customer, so I may not renew my contract in early 2009. I have searched for hours to get 4.2.2 or 4.3 from another carrier for the 8800 and remove the vendor.xml to no avail. If anybody finds a copy of 4.2.2 for 8800, please post it here!

Then you must have a  BB PEARL 8130  which is not a GSM phone (or possibly an 8120 which is GSM but I didn't see that they have been released yet in North America.)

Why must I have an 8130?  My 8100 Pearl has been upgraded with the newer OS, and I hate it.  Currently the Camera does not function because of some Java Error and I will be returning back to T-Mobiles  software.  Just need to know where to find it.

You could turn your phone off or put it is Airplane mode.  There might be a hack for this on the XDA website.

AT&T abaonding you with an older (but nowhere near outdated) device should not be a surpirse to ANYONE based on their prior track record. Most notably the ongoing Blackjack/WM6 DISASTER that is still ongoing (and the reason I now have a BB)!

if you ever have to swap out devices, att will give you a refurbished device. thats just how it is. but they should give you the same model .if they are out, then youll get a newer model.
