If I recall Microsoft got sued for doing the EXACT SAME THING in the late 80's. Disabeling software to make people use their internet explorer ! Microsoft lost BTW 
. If I wanted people makeing descisions for me I would of bought a I-Phone and be forced to use I-Tunes. I pay high dollar to use AT&T cell service I expect to get what I pay for. Metro phones have BB Maps on them.

My icon doesn't stay either however, here is what I do.
Download the ribbon so you have access to the maps. Click on BB Maps and let it find your location (like Home). Once GPS has your location hit Menu and select Copy Location. Now back out of that and open Contacts. Create a new Contact and call it BB Maps (or whatever you wish). In the Notes section at the bottom Paste in your BB Maps location link that you just copied. Save the contact. Now whenever you want BB Maps, pull up the contact and just hit the link.
To take it a step further highlite the Contact, press Menu and select Add to Home Screen. Now you almost have the ribbon back and this time it wont go away
