Today, I asked two AT&T employees how to disable the keyboard lock on my Blackberry 8700C. I am prompted to enter a password when I turn on my Blackberry and every hour thereafter if I want to use the phone. They told me there is no option to disable it. If this is true, it is an awful feature.

Not sure what version OS you are running, but if I go to Options/Password, I have the option for Security Timeout from 2 min to 1hr.
On my work BB(v4.5.0.110), this is found in Options/Security Options/General Settings.

Unless you have an IT policy on your phone you can disable it per Irish Rose. If the IT policy is there because you're on a BES there's nothing you can do about it. If, however, you're not on a BES then search for IT Policy Removal at BlackberryForums.com for instructions, if applicable.

Keep in mind that at&t reps are very hit and miss. I highly recommend using BlackberryForums.com to do some research before you talk to an at&t rep so you can tell if you're dealing with one that knows what he/she is doing. Sometimes you just have to try again and hope for a knowledgeable rep.

Irish Rose, thanks for the link to BES. The description of BES is very confusing. As the new owner of the used BB, can't I remove BES or at least disable it? Are you saying that BES sets up an IT policy which prevents disabling the keyboard lock?
Unfortunately, if the device is still locked to the prior owners BES, you will have to follow the advice in Takeshi's post above, as it is the only way that I know of to resolve this problem also.
