FIRST PROBLEM: I had all my desktop, laptop, and wireless printers all working properly on AT&T DSL service. When the tech installed our U-verse equipment he was not able to get either of my two Kodak wireless printers connected. He could only suggest I contact Kodak which does not have live tech support. I have gone through all the help screens Kodak offers and cannot get either of my two printers connected. It does see the network SSID, but when I enter the Security code the printer attempts to connect for an extended period of time and then reports back that it cannot connect to the router.
SECOND PROBLEM: My desktop computer required a USB Wireless attachment to change it from an Ethernet cable to a wireless connection. My signal strength varies from LOW to NONE. The adapter is located about 30 feet from the router and does have a couple of walls between. I do not have an option to relocate the router, and my desktop unit is built into a desk unit and also cannot be moved, How do I get a signal strength strong enough to allow consistent connectivity.
I have had the technician for AT&T out twice to resolve these issues and he insists that he does not know anything about these printers and tells me he cannot help.
Can someone else provide me some assistance ?
Thanks,
Barry

I attempted to use my D-link router and plug it into one of the ports on the 2wire U-verse router. I was then able to see my previous network on the printer and connect, but then I did not have internet access when I connected my laptop to the D-link router network. If I kept my laptop on the U-Verse network I was unable to print from the laptop.

Hi Barry,
I have some information I researched for you. Your first issue may be cause by the encryption type you are using. Your old 2Wire used WEP encryption and your new 2Wire may be using WPA. Please use the following link <http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB4014

JustinF,
Thanks for the links. A supervisor with AT&T came back out after a couple of attempts by my installer.
He was able to finally get my two printers connected to the wireless network by setting what he said was a
static IP address.
All other issues seem to be resolved for the moment. Since we are in the middle of a home remodel I have not
been able to address issues with static on the phones and caller ID only showing up on my phones once in awhile.
I will have to wait until the remodel is completed before I can call the techs back out to check the inside wiring.
Once again thanks for doing the research. Wish my tech had as much interest in his customer.

The saga continues.
I had Star Power out today to install my home theatre system. Everything went well until it was time to connect
my network to the network ready TV. The installers spent an hour, at a cost of $150.00 trying to connect. Was never able to
get the TV connected to the U-verse router.
U-Verse has been a real PAIN-IN-THE-A$$.
I'm ready to tell them to come and take their CRAP out. Wish I had never signed a 2 year agreement.
My cheap old D-Link router never caused me a day of trouble connecting to anything.

If the wireless adapter for your desktop is plugged directly into the back of you desktop try getting a USB extension cable and move the adapter away from your desktop and as high as possible in the room.
You can use your old wireless router behind the Uverse 2WIRE gateway (RG) in two different ways. As an extender for the RG or as a "replacement" for the RG. To use your D-Link as a "replacement", follow my instructions below.
This is what I did to use an "internal" router (when I had Uverse). I set my "internal" router to use DHCP for the WAN address, plugged it's WAN port in to a LAN port on the 2WIRE, reboot the "internal" router, let the 2WIRE assign a local address to the "internal" router and then set that address to the DMZ in the 2WIRE's management interface. When I go to the "internal" router's management interface it shows as having the same WAN, gateway, and DNS addresses that the 2WIRE uses.
I set the "internal" router to assign addresses to "my" side of the network in a different IP range than what the 2WIRE uses (192.168.2.* instead of 192.168.1.*) but using the same subnet mask (255.255.255.0). My internet works fine with no interuptions and local network tasks (back ups, streaming, etc.) work as expected. I can also still access the 2WIRE from "my" side of the network when I need to without having to change any network settings or swap any cables. Leave DHCP running on the 2WIRE. You do not need to disable the firewall in the 2WIRE as the DMZ will open a pinhole through it to the address you pick (your internal router). If you have existing wireless on your router that your satisfied with and want to keep, just make sure to turn off the wireless in the RG.
All your computers and devices should connect to your D-Link now.
As for the AT&T Set-Top-Boxes (if you have Uverse TV as well) they should be run straight out of the RG with CAT5 or RG6 Coax.
If you currently have your router behind a basic DSL or Cable modem, Your setup will be pretty much the same. The 2WIRE will replace your modem, then go into your existing router and change it's internet connection type to Dynamic or DHCP. Then change it's internal network IP adress and DHCP Pool and you should be good to go.

WOW !!!
That was a very detailed suggestion.
Unfortunately, I have no idea what you said, and even less of an idea of what to do.
Thanks for what was surely a lot of effort.
Maybe when I call AT&T back out to fix several of the other issues, they can use this information.

I share your frustration. I just spent the last two days online with AT&T trying to get my Kodak ESP 5250 wireless printer hooked up to my u-verse wireless router. After three separate phone calls and nearly six hours on hold with the various technical support people I finally requested the IP address to access my AT&T router directly. Once I had access I was able to get my printer connected withinn fifteen minutes.
This is what I did. To access your router you need to type in the following address in your web brouser:
Once you have connected to the router, go down to the Security section and change your Authentication Type from the default "WPA-PSK (TKIP) and WPA2-PSK (AES)" to "WEP-Shared. Once you have done this, click in the box "Use default Wireless Key printed on the System Label" for your Wireless Key.
Go to your printer search for your network and type in the wireless key. You should be able to connect.
This worked for me and I hope it works for your.

Not to lessen your effort and self-sufficiency but, although that will make it easier for your printer to connect, by reducing the security level, you are also making it easier for someone else to hack your wireless network. Most wireless printers less that 3 or 4 years old should be capable of handling WPA-PSK, if not WPA2-PSK. I think you are just missing something in the printer setup. You will have to manually configure the printer from the control panel on the printer, (not from a computer) to elevate the security above WEP.

Hi,
I'm glad we were able to get the printers connected, I am truly sorry you have had this much trouble with the system. Could you please tell me the type of TV. you had installed? I looked at their website and they have a lot of models they use. If you could tell me the model number I will research and try and find a resolution to your problem.
Thank you,
JustinF

I may have fallen into the solution by accident.
The SSID# written down by the installing tech was not correct. It appears he went into the router and reset it to what I had been using on my old D-Link router. When I found this out I was able to connet by TV and Blu-Ray player without any issues.
Hopefully I will not need to connect any other devices, but at least now I know the correct code.
Makes me mad that I had to pay an additional $150.00 to Starpower when the problem was created by the U-Verse Tech.
Now all I have to resolve are the phone issues. Static that they tell me is...., Excuse #1, my old wireless phones (2.4Ghz). That I have now replaced at a cost of $89.00 to 6.0Ghz. Excuse #2, To much EMI in the room where the base unit is located. Moved the base unit to a room without any TV, computers, microwaves or other electronic devices. None of which has made any difference.
Caller ID shows always on the TV as it should. But most times does not display on the phone. Not much help if a TV is not turned on.

Computer Joe is correct.
I own the Kodak 5250 and I was unable to connect it to the 2WIRE WAP.
I solved this problem by doing the following.
Enter 192.168.1.254 into your browser.
Click "Settings", "LAN", "Wireless".
Scroll down to the Security section and change "Authentication Type" to "WPA-PSK(TKIP)".
Scroll to bottom and click "Save"
If your asked for your System Password it is located on the bottom of your 2WIRE WAP
At this point you will lose wireless connection, this is normal.
Click your start button, Click "Control Panel", Click "Network and Sharing Center"
On the left of the window that opens click "Manage wireless networks"
Right-click the monitior icon on the left of the wireless point you use and select "properties"
Click on the "security" tab
Change "Security Type" to "WPA-Personal"
Change "Encryption" Type to "TKIP"
Then enter your Network security key into the text box (also located on the bottom of your 2WIRE WAP)
Click "OK" and you will be able to reconnect to the 2WIRE WAP
Once these steps are complete then you will be able to connect your Kodak printer to your wireless network as stated by the directions provided with your printer.

You may want to take a portable AM radio, set it between stations where it's quiet, and walk around your house with the volume turned up. Point it towards your electrical devices, appliances, lights and anything else using power. If you here a buzzing noise then electrical interference, which can cause a noise on your phone line, can be pinpointed.
The noise on the phone line could also be caused by the newer Belkin BBU (REV B model) they installed since it's evident you have Voice phone. If they left you a power cord, which can bypass this unit, try plugging it directly in from the power outlet to the 2Wire RG to see if that makes a difference. There's no recall on these REV B models but they have been finding noise problems with them and are sending large batches back to Belkin unused.
Sometimes the techs can also install filters on the phone lines for removing noise. It wouldn't be a bad idea to give tech support a call about installing these filters and ask about the Belkin BBU problems.
I installed new upgraded phones (2.4Ghz to 6.0Ghz) just like you did. But I kept my landline instead of going with Voice since they were having signal problems. I live in an old house with a hodgepodge of old wiring and have lots of EFI/noise problems. I was shocked to find how many problems I found with the AM radio test and continued to have noise/static problems on my new phones.
Know the last thing you want to do is spend more money to solve your problems but there may be a way to avoid the hassles through tech support. At the advice of the tech wizards on this forum I bought a "Tripp Lite Isobar Surge Suppressor", plugged the RG/other near devices into it, and my phone static disappeared. These Isobars are excellent in filtering EMI/RFI line noise and also protect your equipment from power surges. This also reduced the freezing/pixelating on my HDTV. Walmart also sells these Isobars at a reasonable price.
Good luck.

On a side note, The whole Kodak printer issue might be a moot point. There will be no Kodak soon. (I always hated their invasive, resource hungry software anyway)

Finally nearing the end of the remodel.
I will be contacting AT&T next week to resolve the phone static issue as well as the caller ID issue.
Next will be the BBU. I didn't know one was supposed to be installed with the U-Verse phone. It seems the installer had all of his units recalled by Belkin and he failed to tell me I should have one. Belkin has called me several times as well as sending me numerous e-mails wanting to replace my current unit with a new one. I can't seem to get it across to the overseas reps that I never got one to return. I have contacted AT&T but they don't seem to know how to handle this issue. Hopefully a onsite technician or supervisor can help resolve this as well.

Since you have Voice phone they are required to install a BBU for 911 emergency calls. But since there's a nationwide shortage it's probably why you didn't receive one and are getting so many calls. Hopefully you still have some paperwork so they can contact the premise tech to verify you didn't receive one. He should be the one to help straighten this situation out.

Just make sure they do not take the original power cord for the RG. That way, when the "New" BBU takes a crap, you have a way to keep your RG running.

Real good point CJ and those RG power cords are more valuable than the BBU itself!
