How do I turn off wireless on 2-wire gateway?

I generally know the answer, I think. Log into my router/modem with the IP address and the first option under the Wireless tab -> change "Enabled" to "Disabled". Is that correct? If so, when I click "save" at the bottom and the new page comes up, it still says "Enabled."
Second question, once it is disabled, how does my computer "connect" to the router/modem again to enable it or change other settings? Computer is in a different room from the router/modem.

Hi,
Yes, you can log into the router and change this setting. However the only way to change it back would be to connect to the router with an Ethernet cable since you will not be able to connect wirelessly if it's turned off. Your airport extreme will need to be plugged into your router if you want to use it's wireless instead. Please let me know if you have more questions.

Justin - Can you tell me how to change the channel on the gateway. I have been told by others that if I make sure that the gateway and my Airport Extreme are on different channels, then I won't have the washout on the wireless signal from the Extreme.
Does that make sense?
