Changed from private to public, now problems

Hey yall,

Last night while looking through the forums I found that I could change my Motorola dsl modem from private to public ip to change my nat type. It worked.... For about 3.5 hours. Since last night, I have gotten just 3 bars on my modem, the dsl connection is up and down, but no internet connection. This morning, I changed it back to private ip, noticed that it said amount of time that an ip lasts said 10 mins. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My bill was late(as of this morning, when I got into work I paid it, lol). Could the fact that the bill was late be the issue, or is something wrong with the router?
