Ok, SO im trying to play MW3 on XBOX, but it is frustrating that i miss everyshot even though my shot is on point on my screen. I also feel i have like a second delay against everybody i play. Im thinking its either my line wearing out or its my modem starting to fail causing lag (especially when im in a gunfight). I feel that my ping/jitter completely go insane when im close to someone ingame or we are both exchanging bullets on each other. So i will pay anyone that actually helps me out with my problem so i can tell at&t the exact problems im having (because not everyone on at&t is that bright). I need HELPFUL information such as should i lower my speed? Can my connection get better by Rewiring my apartment/buying a new modem/ New modem or phone line? Yes ive reset my modem, ive factory resetted it, ive even smacked it since im getting frustrated. So please, im willing to pay anyone that can help me resolve my issues because i've never been this bad before at Call of Duty untill about last year. My LAN devices also tend to lag out, also struggling to even have 2 devices connected at the same time! i lag out of party chats when i visit some websites, i have tryed lowering my mtu, i have tried lowering my upload speed (using 2wire's "traffic shaping", i have tried DMZ mode for my xbox (plus im wired). So please help me out as you can see by my huge paragraph that i am pretty much desperate and fed up with this connection. I also wanted to put in that ive never had this problems untill the beginning of last year (so something might be wearing out). Ive also made sure that this is also happening when im the only one connected to my LAN. Anyway, here are the DSL DIAGNOSTICS.

What type of service do you have? I am seeing both a downstream and upstream rate of 1536 which makes me think SDSL or T1.

If all you have is regular 1.5Mbs ADSL service you were probably near borderline for functional gaming from the beginning. If for some reason you signal degraded from what you had even slightly your gaming will suffer.

What model/make of modem are you using? How old is it?

i have the 2Wire 2701HG-B Gateway and yes i have the basic 1536 kbps express package. Gaming is just horrible and im not sure if its the modem or my signal degrading. My connection was fine when i was on the basic 768kbps package, but im pretty sure upgrades are suppose to make your connection better not worse. I believe that my either my line is degrading or my modem is just not functioning as well anymore so tomorrow im setting up a new gateway to see if i can eliminate the problem. Also, if i get my lines replaced, would my line attenuation decrease? Because i heard 63.0 dB is about the definition of an unstable / bad connection. Mine is at 63.9 dB on the DSL diagnostics page so if i can lower that number that would mean i can get the pro or elite package which would greatly improve my gaming/web browsing etc.. I thought i put this bit in last post.

How long ago did you change from .768 to 1.5?

Does the change coinside with the beginning of the problems?

If you "upgrade" your speed when your connection cannot handle it, your service will more than likely be it worse, intead of better.

Many thing can cause signal degradation, both inside and outside your home. Like a fridge going bad or a streetlight with a bad ballast. Maybe a bad DSL filter.

Does the problem exist all the time or just certain times of the day?

well i just got a new modem and it seems to be WAYYYY better than the 2wire. I think my real problem might have been that 2wire modems are just terrible for anything other than web browsing and checking your email. To be honest, i feel like im actually ahead 1 second now when playing MW3 I still feel as though my line has degraded so any ideas on how to better my line so i can upgrade to a better speed? I am also noticing my Noise levels for my downstream has decreased to 6 dB on this modem. Attenuation is still 63.0dB for both downstream and upstream. Also, if i call at&t to replace my lines outside of my apartment, it is done FREE of charge right?

There should be no charge if externel lines need to be repaired, but actually getting them to act on it is another thing altogether.

About the only thing you can do for your lines is to run a dedicated CAT3 or CAT5 from your NID to your Modem jack.

6db SNR is too low. If I'm not mistaken, you want to see atleast 12db.

ok none of this really helped me. Everytime i call att or get an att tech at my apartment they say my connection is fine. I recently got a brand new gateway and i still continue to face the same problems. I also notice that on this new modem. it shows my modem syncing at 1230kbps D/L and SNR downstream varies from 6-9dB. On my 2wire modem, i use to sync at 1536kbps ( which im suppose to be getting) with like 15-17 dB downstream SNR. My guess is that the 2wire modem somehow increases those stats a little bit as to where any other modem shows the actual stats. Ive also tried rewiring my apt but these att techs " who btw does not even know what SNR or MTU is" are compeletly useless.What do i do?

Hey Boss, if you're getting decreased sync rates (kbps) and noise margins (SNR) bouncing around 6dB, there is either an issue with interference (hence the low SNR) or a distance issue. I would lean toward the distance issue because your downstream attenuation is noted above at nearly 64dB. Once the signal attenuates at over about 60dB that loop is so long, the ADSL signal is being stretched too much for anything faster than ADSL Lite (768k) speeds. I would totally ISOLATE that new modem on the ADSL line with no filters or any other devices connected and make sure the data cable (RJ11) is less than 10ft long. Also make sure you have the modem drawing its power directly from a wall outlet instead of a surge protector, power strip, or UPS. This allows you to rule out any source of interference on the phone line or power line. Once you've done all that, check your SNR, sync rate, and attenuation again. If your SNR isn't closer to 9 or 10dB, your sync rate closer to 1500kbps downstream, and your attenuation is still that high (nearly 64dB), I'd recommend remediating that connection to 768K ADSL Lite. If you see a vast improvement during the isolation, you'll know it's interference on your end and that can be resolved easily but if there's no improvement, it's probably a distance issue and remediating to the 768k should help. True the connection will be slower but your problems are most likely coming from multiple disconnects and nearly immediate reconnects of the PPP session when the modem loses sync with the ADSL signal. Your latency is also probably coming from an interleaved ADSL signal. A lot of times when DSL Support cannot stabilize a connection they will interleave the signal for more stability. It decreases the maximum sync rate of the connection, raises the SNR, and it also produces latency but it does help to keep the modem in sync on long loops and loops where they can't resolve interference. Have you contacted DSL support since changing out that 2Wire? If you have, there are a lot of them that know about the 2Wire's problem with an interleaved signal (they just don't work well with interleaved signals a lot of times) so if you're not using a 2Wire now, they probably had your signal interleaved with the new modem where it wasn't (or wasn't so highly) interleaved when you were using the 2Wire.That's probably why the sync rate dropped on the new modem. If you remediate to 768K, you'll have a lower speed but a more stable 768K ADSL signal and it can probably be provisioned as a "fast path" ADSL signal with no interleave. That should be more cohesive for gaming than a 1.5Meg "interleaved" ADSL signal that only produces a sync rate of 1200Kbps and an SNR of 6-7dB along with the latency of the interleave. (Google "'interleaved' vs 'fast path' ADSL signals" for more info about it and a better understanding of the difference. Or here's the Wiki: http://tinyurl.com/c3h4eqq ) Once the signal to noise ratio (SNR) gets to 6dB and below, the ADSL signal becomes unstable even if it's been interleaved so if you can't get that SNR up to about 8-9dB on 1.5Meg, 768K will be the only option for you I'm afraid to say.
