AT&T Elevate 4G and Xbox Live

I moved to the middle of nowhere and can not get anything but satellite Internet or 3G. I purchased the elevate 4G device for my primary Internet connection as satellite is just unacceptable. I would like to be able to play Xbox multiplayer games if possible. I do not expect great performance but anything is better than nothing. My main issue is NAT type is always strict so some games just will not work, I don't expect full open but moderate should be possible and at least allow me to party up. I have setup port forwarding in the advanced settings of the elevate with no results, hours of searching have not provided any answers. Is it even possible to get a NAT type lower than Strict/3 on the AT&T network or is this an issue at the carrier level over HSPA+? If it is possible do I need a different device (USB style aircard hooked to a router?) or something other than the elevate device. Any help would be appreciated. I am currently able to connect and some games will allow me to play but Forza and others just do not allow multiplayer with strict NAT. Thanks.

Sorry no solution with this device yet that I know of. The only other thing I could think to try would be a different card (USB pc style) hooked direct to a router to confirm if the traffic is being blocked at the carrier level or not. It could just be hotspot style devices being limited but I am not sure. I did try mass effect 3 multiplayer recently and that worked flawlessly on 360. Any game is worth a shot, most won't work though and I would never buy a multiplayer game expecting it to work properly without testing/renting first. As far as being better off because of data usage that is pretty ridiculous. I am better off not being able to do something I want to?? Game traffic does not use a large amount of data and even if it did I would gladly pay overages or a premium to be able to play. I could easily outpace game data usage just surfing the Internet. Obviously some games net code is more bloated than others but most use as little as possible for obvious performance reasons, ping is more important than bandwidth in the gaming world, we are not talking streaming video. If anyone else has any ideas/suggestions or has had luck with any games in particular please post up. A list of games that do work is better than nothing.

Yeah!!! I also have that problem with my elevate 4g card is their any way to open your NAT?.... I have tried everything but my xbox wont recognize it.

After updating the elevate and turning on the dmz with my xbox set static I have open NAT on max Payne 3. I have also been playing a lot of diablo 3 ( although you drain battery faster than it will charge)

Don't have many new MP games to get but tried Forza4, Dirt3, and CoD MW2 and did not have any issues. Will test PS3 at some point but should work the same. Just login to the elevate go to advanced settings>>router>>DMZ and put your boxes IP in there (will require a restart) Probably best to be set with a static IP on the xbox/PS3. I also have port forwarding turned on in the elevate from a previous attempt to get LIVE working but YOU should not need to do both. No clue if this will work for everyone but looks to be good for me so far. Not sure about ping on live, in diablo the lowest I seen was 160ms but it stays more in the mid-high 200s with ugly spikes in the thousands as well. Delay could get you killed a few times more than usual in a FPS but it is definitely usable. Might pick up battlefield or another new shooter to see how it works out. Games that don't need high ping (non fighters, arcade games etc.) work flawless for me so far.

Quick update, pretty sure this is a carrier level issue at this point. I picked up BF3 and have been playing it for the greater portion of the month with no issues, NAT open etc. The last couple days it has been sluggish and full of lag when moving around. I went and did connection test and back to strict with no changes made to the elevate. I had actually been playing with DMZ turned off and just pulling a DHCP address and there were no issues, open nat everything working fine for weeks. I just hit 90% data utilization on my phone and on my elevate just before NAT went back to strict. From doing some research it looks like AT&T throttles heavy data users, right now my assumption is that I am in that group and whatever is done on the backed for the throttle also killed my open NAT. I have 10 days left on this cycle and hope everything opens back up when the new cycle begins, worked great while it lasted. Back to single player for now.

I have used the mifi through at&t before i got the elevate and you could change the connection profile from broadband to isp.cingular and it would make my ps3 show up as a nat type 2 or moderate for all of the call of duty games i have played. But even after using the dmz and even changing the profile on my elevate to isp.cingular it stays at a strict nat or type 3. Havent found a way to get it to change.
