Altering time, date and text.

I was wondering if its possible to alter the time, date and the text message form a previous text. I'm not trying to do this but someone has done it to my wife. We are in the process of trying to subpoena my wifes text messages and hopefully the person who altered the these text meassage's ( which, the person stated some horrible and false stuff) . The problem is that these texts happen back in April of 2011 and were related to work. I know the person has a AT&T phone and thats it. He has produced some documents showing text messaging between them, but totaling showing something false!!!!

Are their apps that allow you do this or can you just do it from the phone or on the computer some how?
