How does AT&T get away with charging $30 for family texting when other companies only charge $15? I can't wait for my contract to expire so I can go to another company! You'd think these days that they'd be a little more competative instead of being so greedy. Shame on you AT&T!!!!! Not only that, but when I signed the contract a year ago texting was offered for $15 so in one year they doubled the price! Really???

I too am apalled by their plan pricing in general. I have the lowest possible plan with the lowest possible minutes (limited nights/weekends) plus $15 for LIMITED text messages and it's still costing me about $55/mo. Compared to other service providers' pricing I'd agree with you. AT&T is overpriced.

Family messaging was not $15 a year ago. Our family added it in November of 2008 and it was $30 then, the same as it is now. Perhaps individual messaging was $15? Or the 1500 plan was $15? But family texting has been $30 for more than a year.
Also, I just checked Verizon's pricing. For a family plan with 700 minutes, it costs $69.99 for talk only. If you add texting, it costs $99.99. That is an additional $30, which is the same as AT&T.
That being said, I completely agree that texting is overpriced. It costs so little for cell phone providers, yet they charge so much.

All I know is that I can get 50 extra minutes per month and unlimited texting for all our phones from T-Mobile for less than I'm paying now without texting from at&t.

T-Mobile does have some lower cost choices, but they also have less coverage, depending on the conditions where you will be using your phone. If you go with them, make sure you will have good coverage where you will need it. If you don't have good reception, a lower rate won't do you much good!

Ormom51 is completely right. Coverage from place-to-place is more important than having none at all.
Personally, I would rather pay more money than have not coverage whatsoever...

I am too upset and I posted on their facebook wall to have Cheaper messaging plans. My family sends over 31,000 text messages and MMS a month! We are trying to save as much money as possible. Even if AT&T puts the rate down to $25 or $20 a month that would be GREAT!!!
AT&T PLEASE LISTEN TO US!
$15 a month would be great also considering they would get more customers.

If AT&T had cheap[er] messaging rates, then that might boost new customer services by about, maybe 3%, but mainly what a customer is looking for is adequate coverage, (nationwide) right-priced services, great phone selection, and friendly customer service help.
Messaging rates are only a small part of that...

I am also sick of providers charging so much for text services. It should be included our already overpriced cell phone plan! Unfortunately supply and demand plays a huge role in why providers can get away with this practice. Because everyone knows texting takes up very little bandwidth and doesn't cost them much to impliment.

You're lying. I've had the Unlimited Family Messaging on my account for nearly 4 years now and it's always cost me $30 for the package.
I'm perfectly willing to accept that the charges are excessive, but I always have the choice to stop using AT&T's service. Nobody's forcing me to have cell phones.

Ormom51, you are right.
Just watching television this evening, there was a commercial for T-Mobile advertising their $20 a month family messaging.
If this sounds like a better deal to you, then go for it.
