I gave the Ipad as a gift and had the recipient order wireless internet through AT&T. The instructions that came with the "gateway" they mailed her did not work (data for needed fields was supplied to me by phone and were not on the instruction sheet) and tech support had me on the phone for an hour. She initially got connected and now has no internet service at all. And now I don't have the data AT&T supplied for those fields. I am trying to answer 2 questions. 1st do I need the Apple Airport wireless router in conjunction with what AT&T supplied, the 2wire? And do I have to call in again for this non-supplied information to get connected? She has paid for internet service since 4/22 and can't send or receive email and has NO internet connection. and the OKC tech support could NOT figure out how to get the Ipad connected and transferred me to California. We need HOME wireless service. She won't be taking it out to hotspots. I have asked this question on Apple forum as well and still have no answers. I figure the service provider is the one who is responsible for the solution. Especially since AT&T is partnering with Apple on the 3G version. Please help and thank you so much!

Sorry I'm a little confused on the post and what service you have and what your trying to accomplish.
Are you trying to get an iPad WiFi to connect to your home internet? This forum is for AT&T Hotspots (like at Starbucks, Barns & Noble, McDonalds etc etc) and not for home internet service. You have to have the iPad 3G version to use AT&Ts WiFi service.
You your wanting how internet using your own internet connection then:
If the 2Wire modem has WiFi then thats all you should need to be able to connect. The Airport wireless router would be for those that do not have a home router with wireless (like my Comcast Cable Modem does not have wireless so I have to use a third party wireless router. But that said if you have an Airport Extreme laying around I would use it as its a better wireless router.
If your unsure about the settings for the 2Wire router I would start unsecured (no encryption) first. Set up the 2Wire so there is no encryption. See if you can get the iPad to connect. If so them move on and try one of he encryption schemes. Normally its an incompatibility between the encryption that gives people problems.
Unfortunately I don't have one here or the manual to try walking you thru the setup. If its like the 2701 series I would start here at page 23 and go on to lean about netwroking:
