How can I change my Media Net User Name?

I recently called customer care to have my media net user name changed and they were apparently unable to do that.  Today, I went to my local AT&T store to talk to a representative in person.  After the representative made a couple of phone calls, he told me that it was not possible to change my user name.

I'm a bit perplexed as to why this seemingly simple task is not possible, but I imagine there's probably a complex answer behind it.

Is it possible to delete or remove my existing media net account and register a new one?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I did not know there is a MEdia Net username... what does it do? Are you talking about WAP@CINGULARGPRS or similar.... I don't believe that actually does anything.

I have never heard of a medianet user name either. I have been using it a long time and never needed a user name. What are you talking about?

The user name doesn't seem to be anything you need to overtly use to sign into anything.  From what I've been able to gather, when you initially sign up for a Media Net account, you enter a user name at that time.  This user name is then tied to your phone number, and appears to be permanent.

If you use your phone to send email via Media Net, your email name is the user name you initially chose @medianet.att.net.  I've had AT&T as a carrier for years, even before they became Cingular.  I honestly can't remember signing up for a Media Net account, and providing a user name at that time, but I obviously did.

The email part is the reason I'm interested in changing my username.  I want to get a username that matches, or is similar to, my regular home email address.

It is incomprehensible to me that a user name would be permanent and unchangeable, but that appears to be the case.

If you need to register you can click the Register Now:

Once logged in there is a link for Update Registration.  I believe this was the place to change it however the link no longer works:

I'm not sure but you might be able to go back to the beginning and try registering for a new account.  Not sure if you can have more than one attached to a phone number or not.
