How do I send a ringtone to my wife's phone from mine?

Apparently the ringtone I tried to send to her was too big at 281k. Is there another way?  I can't connect through usb or micro sd.

Not all phones support sending or receiving of ringtones over bluetooth.  And some will only accept files under a certain file size and some only accept files of certain types.

It would be a little bit more help if you told us what the make and model of yours and hers phone is since every phone is different.

Send her a multi-media text message.  Attach sound. Select ring tone.  Send.

Hate to break it to you Jimbo, but as soon as you attach anything to a message (sound, picture, video file, etc) it becomes an MMS, so that is what he IS trying to send. 

Anyhow, to the OP.  Do both phones have bluetooth?  If they do, you can use send via bluetooth.  As long as you're within a certain distance within one another and the tone does not have a lock icon, it should be able to connect to transfer/copy.  (Tones you purchase from AT&T and some other sites get locked to your phone, so they are non-transferrable).

I'm going from Samsung A737 to a Samsung A237.  I initially tried to send it as an MMS before I started this thread. I made the ring tone myself, so it's not proprietary. I have tried bluetooth, but I can't get the phones to recognize each other. At this point, I'm just wishing she had opted for a phone with a micro sd slot.

You would have to put the one receiving in Discoverable mode first. 

Basically on your phone:

1. Highlight the ringtone,
2. Choose Send Via Bluetooth,
3. Then search for devices. 

On your wife's phone:

1. Go to the menu
2. Settings
3. Connection
4. Bluetooth Connection
5. Find Me/Make device discoverable

If your phone is searching during the 2 or 3 minutes her phone is on "Discoverable" it should find it. 

On a sidenote:  Make sure nothing is connected to hers or yours via Bluetooth at the time, or you'll get the "Bluetooth Link is busy" message.

Some phones don't support multimedia for Bluetooth transfer. They do not have the licensed protocol to do so. Best way to check is to go into your device manual and verify what files are allowed by Bluetooth. In general if it can't send it, then it can't recieve it.

DRM. If you bought a ringtone, you have a 3% chance of it working on another phone.

If you make your own, you have a 100% chance of it working.

I'm finding that Samsung's manual and online references have been entirely insufficient in solving this problem. These are their instructions for activating bluetooth:  Turn on bluetooth, search for devices. They don't have any instructions, or troubleshooting to tell me what to do if I can't find devices. As far as I can see, there is no Discoverable Mode. As I've said, I can't find any documentation telling me what to do if I can't get Bluetooth to connect. There is no documentation telling me what sort of connections I can make through my bluetooth.

Am I missing something?

I've never had much luck myself, as far as using bluetooth for phone to phone connections and file transfer. If you made your own ringtones, then I'm assuming you probably have copies on your PC. Your best option as far as your wifes phone goes would be to buy a usb bluethooth dongle. You can get them for under twenty bucks. This will allow you to connect your wife's phone to the PC via bluetooth, since you can't do it with a data cable. Even if you don't have the copies on the PC anymore, you can use the dongle to connect your phone and tranfer copies back to the PC. Plus, the dongle will be good for future phones.

Screw it... I can't find anything on how to put the 237 in discoverable mode, so here's a shortcut.  Take the done, save it to your computer.  Use any email client (preferably one that doesn't insert ads in your email) and send it as an attachment.  As long as the email doesn't exceed the phone's size capabilities, you can download the attachment.  (Some charges may apply for net usage if you do not have Unlimited Messaging).

I've used this software before, when my wife last had a samsung phone. It's a pretty hefty download, but it works great. Also a good option, especially if you already have the data cable for your phone. Between me and my family, we've had a variety of phones. So after the first go around, I got tired of buying data cables and bought the bluetooth dongle. It works for all phones that have bluetooth, which is most of them. I can't remember if you can use this software with bluetooth though.
