I'm on Wi-Fi at home and data still being consumed

After 131 minutes on the phone with four different AT&T reps, I got the answer to this in the first 10 seconds with the last rep! When at home, go to settings ( this is for i-pads) and turn OFF cellular service. Be sure you are logged on to your home wireless. You will get anything you can get on your home PC, and no data charges on your i-pad account. When away from home, turn cellular service back on! That's when you will burn your data allowance. Hope this helps someone.

I was told to turn WI-FI ON, turn 3G ENABLE OFF and turn FETCH NEW DATA OFF.

For those like me that did not know how to do this:

To turn Wi-Fi ON, go to:

Settings-Wi-Fi, tab over wi-fi-turn wi-fi ON.

To turn 3G Off:

Settings-General-Network-Enable 3G- Turn Enable 3G OFF.

To turn Fetch New Data off:

Settings-Mail,Contacts,Calendars-Fetch New Data- Turn Fetch New Data OFF.

This is my first day trying this, so I need to watch it very closely to see if it really works.  Good luck for all of us!!!!

Best solution to the data usage is to install a firewall on ur iPhone then you can allow or deny any connection ur phone tries to make. U would b shocked how much data all apps send out to developers and places like googleleads that kinda track the usage of their apps so they can c how many people use the app and when. To install a firewall u will have to jailbreak ur phone. Very easy to do. Go to sinfuliphone.com and u will find all the info u need. U will also b able to get tons of other verified and completely safe apps. This in no way puts ur phone at risk. I would not have my iPhone without it being jail broke. And u can always restore the phone with iTunes If u want.

JAILBREAK Iphone is the only way to iPhone.

Go into your settings to general, then cellular and you can turn your data off. When you want to use it, just turn it back on.

For some of you who may not know this. For some models, the 3g/4g data gets used when the devices goes into standby mode. It disconnects the Wifi.

Iphone for example, I have NOT seen my iphone ever wake up from standby and been in wifi signal. Its always back on 4G till a couple seconds later then its Wifi.

Now android, say my Galaxy S3 for example, would do the same by default settings. HOWEVER. Android gives you an option in your Wifi settings menu area, where you can tell it to keep the wifi connection alive, either when its plugged in or always. (Which would drain the battery if not on the charger) However, least when I wake that device up, its still connected to its wifi.

So take a look at those.

Otherwise for iphone users, only real choice is to turn off the cellular data. Dont do airplane mode... then how are you supposed to get text/calls in?
