I would like to use a Samsung Jack with my TomTom to access traffic and weather. The average data usage would be around 50k/day. Is this something I'd need the laptop connect for, or is there some cheaper package that would allow me to use this minuscule amount of data via tether?
Thanks

I certainly wouldn't worry about it. That miniscule amout of data isn't going to raise any flags. Plus, you aren't tethering to a laptop, you are tethering to a TomTom. I bet I do three times that amount of data traffic on my phone just reading my email without tethering to anything.

But tehering is tethering, there is no in between.

At 50 kilobytes a day they aren't going to send out the tethering police.

That is not the point. The Terms of Service do not have "grace" amount for Tethering. For example, is it more or less illegal to jaywalk across 2 lanes of traffic versus 4 lanes of traffic? While on a lightly traveled road, the police may let you off with a warning, that doesn't mean that what you were doing was allowed. So it is with tethering. All tethering data is billable if you don't have a tethering plan. The fact that you haven't been caught means that you've been lucky...just like in jaywalking. ![]()
Also note that the guildelines for these forums say that you're not to post anything that's illegal. So encouraging someone to violate the Terms of Service is definitely a no-no.

We may not like all the guidelines and such but they are in place for a reason, mainly due to this being a private forum.

You may want to read my post in this thread again. Advising to do something that would violate the Terms of Service is against forum guidelines and could get you banned from the foums.
