OK AT&T, what's up with the text messaging service for smart phones? Either you pay as you go or pay $20 a month for unlimited. I am in the age group of over 50 & I do text, but not as much as a much younger person would. I just upgraded to an Iphone 4S and these were the only choices I had, unlimited or pay as I go. I really think you should re-implement plans that allow for less text limits for less money. I'm retired & text less than 200 msgs a month. I had the 200 a month pkg before upgrading to the Iphone 4S. I think 200 a month for $5 a month would be great. Give us soon to be seniors a break.

I totally agree with you. It was wrong of AT&T to eliminate their 200 and 1,000 text messaging plans. If you do not want to pay $20 for unlimited messaging every month, the standard pay-per-use rate would most likely be your best option. The 200 messages plan for $5 would have probably suited you very well.

In situations like this, we really do vote with our wallets. Both Verizon and Sprint offer iPhone plans now....maybe it's time to take a closer look at ATT's competitors?

Bring back the resonable text plans. It's such a small amount of data and you charge so much for it. It should be ILLEGAL!

One word: iMessage. AT&T knows their texting options are becoming irrelavant so they are forcing people to go unlimited so they don't lose money to a free texting service.

Imessage only works to another iphone with the ability, other then that is sends sms if you have it turned on, if not then no one gets your texts unless they have a iphone with imessage.
Beleive it or not, there are a majority of people of there that either have a qmd device or a non-apple smartphone, combine is probably more then the total number of iphones that are on att service - they will never recieve your texts

If you have an iPhone 4S, then you have several "free" options that don't require you to subscribe to a texting plan. Yes, they wil probably involve using a different "virtual" phone number but to save you over 200.00 a year is probably worth the one-time hassle.
Also, the reason that Unlmited Texting is $20.00 is because it includes Unilmited Mobile2Mobile calling. That last feature was a god-send. It allowed me to go down to the lowest minute plan they had since I rarely talk on the phone to anyone who DOESN'T have a cell phone anyway.
1) Google Voice
2) Skype SMS
3) What's App
4) Text+

I'll download it on my phone and try it out w/o wifi on and let u know if it works. ;-)
Oh and I also went with unlimited texting because while I don't text A LOT, (less than kids, more than you), I get text reminders from almost everything as well as texts from the fire department AND it came with free mobile to mobile so I too, got the 450min plan and since 3/1 I have 1300 roll over minutes. ;-)

I would keep watching. AT&T seems to follow along with Verizon and has even tipped thier hat that things are going to change. It may not be for the better though. If they follow along with Verizon you will soon have unlimited calling and texting for one flat rate. No more worrying about minutes or texts. You just get less data. ( At least that's what I took away from Verizons pricing structure.) But on the plus side, if they follow Verizon you wouldn't have to buy extra data just to have the convience of using a small amount of it with a laptop or tablet. Only time will tell though. I suspect AT&T is closely watching Verizon and listening to what customers will say about those plans before they make a move. Both sides of the issue has pluses and minuses. But I think the days of your bill going down as the carriers compete for customers is about over. I think bills are just going to keep going up until people just start to drop cell service completely. Which of course will be very hard to do.

Didn't ATT just get rid of unlimited? Or was that only unlimited Data? I wouldn't mind unlmited minutes, heck I pay for 450+ rollover and in 4 months I have 1700 rollover minutes already. My data-- well 98% of it is on Wifi. I've used 7gb on Wifi and 160 MB on 3G. I"m not worried about less Data, lol. (I pay for 3gb)
unlimited data is gone, that is the way the industry is moving.
