I have a similar problem. My voicemail system at work forwards my messages to my iphone (10digits@mms.att.net) as .wav files. Last week (April 22nd-ish) they started bouncing back with the error message: "Email sent failed". As I continued to explore the issue I find that my iphone now can't get .wav files from ANY source. If the MMS message does make it to the phone w/o bouncing back I get the "One or more of the message components have been deleted by MMS Adaptation" error message.
I've spent lots of time on the phone with AT&T, Apple tech support and my own IT Dept. No one has a clue about what changed.

FWIW I think you're right about a change in the MMS Adaptation. Wish they'd be a little more forthcoming when they make a change with such potential for impact.
Good luck. I appreciate your efforts.

I just got off the phone with AT&T and we found that if I send the emaiil to XXXXXXXXXX@cingularme.com it worked. Try it! I found the cingularme.com in the header of the returned message. If there is a different domain there you might want to try XXXXXXXXXX@differentdomain.com (or whatever you find).

I too have been experimenting with trying to send MMS messages to my phone, our phone system can email me .wav files of new voicemail messages... if I send a MMS message (photo) to my email account, it comes back as xxxxxxxxxx@mms.att.net, if I send any kind of attachment to mms.att.net via gmail, it only comes through as text. my gmail account is my default recipient of voicemails, gmail in turn forwards the messages automatically to my phone (or it should)
using my office email... I can receive mms messages (cell phone photo), replied to phone with a JPG (came up as "file removed as not supported" something or other) and didn't receive the file, replied to phone again with .wav file, message was never received
I've also tried other forementioned mail servers, not one succeeded in sending the wav file through to my phone

I just confirmed I could email myself a mp3 to xxxxxxxxxx@mms.att.net, but if I sent a .wav file, it would not go through
