Send txt msg from Outlook (or other email service)

I know that others can message my email their mobile (using xxxxxxxxxx@txt.att.com).  How can I create an email in outlook to be received as a txt msg on the recipients mobile?

It's actually 10digitnumber@txt.att.net

Just add the 10digitnumber@txt.att.net  address into that person's contact info as a 2nd email address. Outlook gives you at least 3 email addresses per person (if you add it using the computer).

If you're sending a text from a computer, I would actually suggest your sending to 10digitnumber@mms.att.net rather than to the txt.att.net addy. This is because all the header information becomes part of the text message you are sending, so instead of 160 chars you end up with only 100 of actual content (and the content will be split and sometimes received out of sequence). If you send to the mms addy, they will receive the ENTIRE message without being split.

     As long as you send the message as a plain text message you will get a full normal sms, this is the process i use anyways.

Thanks, all.  But what if I don't know the recipient's carrier?  I just want to text a colleague from Outlook (or an online app) but have the reply address be my mobile?

     Other than using the proper address from the luist below, then you would have to find a website to have the messages sent from, that way all you have to do is enter the phone number.

Unfortunately, you *have to* know the recipient's carrier before you can text from the outlook.

Now, if you're ok with texting thru AIM Express instead of outlook, you can simply add your colleague's phone number (format: +1xxxyyyzzzz) into your buddy list and text to their cell phone from AIM Express without knowing their carrier. (This is actually what I do myself.)

The only downside is that unless you print out the conversation, before logging off, you cannot preserve the conversation.

I have found this to be by far the EASIEST way to email text someone, in the email address line you will enter: the recipients ten digit cellular number@teleflip.com

This is a FREE service and it will deliver to ANY CARRIER!!! I use it all the time and hasn't failed me yet....happy email texting.

I tried that and got error messages that my emails were undeliverable after 3 days of delays. Any thoughts as to why this is?

I use the Wireless Amber Alerts site when I need to find out someone's carrier.  Just enter the number and the carrier will be displayed. ( you don't have to sign them up.)
