Maybe you can get a hold of your child's phone while he/she is asleep and check.

There is no way to find out what they are texting in the middle of the night, unfortunately enough. You could call AT&T and they will say it is for Privacy reasons, which makes sense to me. The only way to find out what they are texting is to grab their phone and check from it. My recommendation is to go into their room in the middle of the night and grab a hold of it without any warning, you might get lucky and find some.

By signing up to view your att bill online. You can see unbilled activity. You will be able to see the times when messages are sent and received. as well as when phone calls are sent or received. You will not be able to see the content of the text message though. Att offers smart limits for customers. there is a fee. but this may assist you with monitoring your childs usage.

The times given may not be accurate for text messages. When I check my daughter's phone online it shows messages incorrectly. For example, she has had a "texting conversation" with a friend but it shows up as if the friend sent ten, fifteen, or thirty straight messages and then she sent thirty back. Or it shows large numbers of texts to and from one number as only sent or received, but not sent and received, which is what actually happened. At first I was afraid she was being stalked or was stalking someone!
Can you try sending messages to your child and then checking online to see how accurately those are being reported? That might give you a better idea of exactly when the late night texting is being done. A few years ago, our texts were all two hours off of the actual times they were sent and received.
One solution to the late texting...take the phone away at night. When my kids were in high school, the phones were turned off at 10pm. And, in the case of the aforementioned daughter, taken away. She just could not follow the rules I had for cell phone usage so I took the phone-even though she was 18.

Make them put their phone away before they go to bed - like in your room. If they are texting in the middle of the night instead of sleep then putting their phone in your room at night could be a consequence for doing so.

No, just take it. Especially if your paying the bill, you are the adult and parent. Not to sound mean but if there is concern in a parent and if they are the one supporting and paying for this kid's stuff they have all right to take it and look at it infront of them

There is a software that is called Mobile Watchdog I bleieve that you can get for your child's phone that will monitor and allow you to see the content of the text messages she is sending. AT&T cannot provision this due to the fact that the software is not a AT&T branded product. Try searching the internet for this. I have heard it is very effective for situations such as yours.

You could always try to get a federal judge to grant you a warrant you view your own childs cellular phone records. Even though you are probably the one that pays the bill. My 4 year old is wanting a car, I think i'll buy the 4yr old a car and hope for the best.

dysfunxion...I TOTALLY AGREE with you but I didn't want to be as blunt about telling the OP to just TAKE their kid's phone. That's what I would do though if I am paying the bill. ![]()

There is no ATT application that does this. There migh be a third party application/service but it depends on your phones make/model and how good you are at programming. A different solution is a service like

My parents tried that but I had to change my password on my iphone because my friends knew it, so when I woke up and I accidental typed in my password incorrectly I got a wait 5 minute "Phone Locked" message because my dad had tried it and didn't know my new password. I also have a question, my dad told me that he can read my text and told me what I had been sending but I went on many sites that said you can not do this so I am wondering if there are any companies where you are able to read child's text?
