Does *8 have to be entered each time to make a Voice call?

Can you please clarify if *8 has to be entered each time I would want to make a voice call?
With handsfree dialing becoming law in this state in 2008, if I have to dial *8 each time to make a voice call, then that would defeat the purpose and would still be in violation of the law.
If *8 has to be entered then it doesn't solve the problem of handsfree dialing.


(I'm not yet a VoiceDial user -  so sorry if this is a dumb question).

     Yes you do, as for the requirement for legal for your state, assign the *8 to a speed dial number, this way you dont have to look at the phone.

OK, sadly that still doesn't make it usable hands free. you still have to open the phone and press a key to activate voicedial.
Looks like my only option is to get a totally hands free phone with voice dialling built in as AT&T's *8 is not going to work.

With my BT headset, I can press a button on the headset to activate voice dialing, I don't need to touch the phone. That way I could program *8 into the address book and access it with one button press on the ear. The same goes for the wired headset that came with the phone, BTW.

I second this. With my Motorola Bluetooth headset and a Blackberry 8300, I just tap the button on the headset and the voice dial starts up. No need to even look at the phone.

What about the Jawbone 2 and the iphone? With the touch screen it makes it impossible to tell what button you are pushing without looking.

On the SouthWing sh241 you just press the "Push4" button and you automatically are connected with *8. Regular voice dialing can also be done on the headset only if your phone supports voice tags. *8 is more than just voice dialing as they have news info, weather, stocks, and horoscopes among other things.
