I bought the E71x less than a month ago. I love the phone, but am frustrated with Xpress Mail. Every time I think I have solved an issue or understand something about the program, it does not work.
My first issue that I have is that I cannot delete any messages off of my phone until I check my email on the computer because of the settings I have with my service provider (the settings are leave on server until I delete or move from inbox, I have tried to change it to just leave on server, but it still does not work). Apparently Xpress Mail does not offer the "delete from handheld" option.
I have worked around that issue ( I thought) by scheduling email delivery not by pushing them and leaving a message in the sent file to be able to manually receive emails. (In order to see the "receive" option, for manual retrieval, you have to have a message in the inbox or the sent folder.)
This worked until today. I had been able to "trick" the phone not to search for new email since I set it up to schedule every 2 hours between 11am and 12pm. However, this morning right at 11am it retrieved messages. I have now changed the scheduling option to "never", but I had originally tried that and it still received email throughout the day. Which leads me to the next problem... If I leave any messages on my phone (because if I delete and have not retrieved them on my computer it will delete off of server and I lose the message) from day 1, when messages from day 2 are downloaded all messages from day 1 are purged automatically! I have even changed the saved message setting to 300 (the default is 20) and that did not help. Also, I tried to "copy" messages I wanted to save into a folder that I created, but I get an error message that says "Messaging: Feature not supported!".
Does anyone have any suggestions? I have seen some responses on other questions that have suggested a different email program. (emoze.com, nuevasync.com, email.nokia.com - do you have to pay for these or are they free applications?)
I was surprised to see a few things on the message boards concerning the Nokia E71x. The first thing was that someone said they did not purchase the data plan with this phone... I thought the only way you could buy this phone was to purchase a data plan. Also, AT&T said there was not another program available to access email on this phone, when I complained about the problems I was having with Xpress Mail but that differs from the posts I have found on this forum.
Since I have the data plan, which covers unlimited email and internet, what other charges may apply? I read that someone only wanted to check email by wifi so they would not get charged. Does this not apply to me since I have the data plan?
Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!
