Samsung Evergreen - Quit trying to sync the address books! No seriously!

OK, so...I have a Samsung Evergreen. Actually, shared account for a whole family, I'm not the bill-payer, and there are multiple of em.

Anyway, so I add someone to my contacts list on my phone. Key words: On my phone.

That was last night. Today, out of nowhere, I hear "the error message bing" and find that hey! The thing is trying to sync up my address book with everybody else's...And failing! Repeatedly!

I turn off automatic sync. That does nothing.

Before I go nuts (it's doing this every 5 minutes or so), how do I *stop* the phone from trying to sync up the address books or otherwise go off and do stuff without my telling it to? I don't want it to sync (because I don't want to share my contacts), I didn't tell it to sync, I want it to quit trying to sync. Bad phone, no mind of your own!
