Enabling scheduled updates would use no more battery life than having push enabled, which logs on to check for new mail every 5 - 15 minutes. With scheduled updates you can either set how often you want your email to synchronize or set it to smart power mode...
Smart Power - To conserve power, synchronizing uses the following intervals:
- High-power (> 50%):
- Weekdays: synchronizes every 15 min
- Weekends: synchronizes every 60 min
- Medium-power (20% - 50%):
- Weekdays: synchronizes every 30 min
- Weekends: synchronizes every 2 hrs
- Low-power (< 20%): sync every 2 hrs
- Weekdays: synchronizes every 2 hrs
- Weekends: synchronizes every 2 hrs

Kfax6,
Thanks for the work around. Like others have said, why does the AT&T reps have a problem bringing this up??
I'm going to forward onto the rep that has been trying to help me. It must be something on th AT&T side of the house and they need to get their act togtther! ![]()

Should work. Good luck!
Thanks for pointing out this fix... I have also noticed that using this method "might" have fixed another issue that I had with my phone inbox. Emails that I had already marked as read were frequently marked as unread whenever the phone synced with Xpressmail. .

All,
Just got off the phone with the AT&T tech rep that I have been working with and they have found the issue. Seems that Verizon had blocked the IP address, due to a large amount of spam, that mail from AT&T mobile devices were using to send email via Verizon. Verizon has now unblocked the IP address and I was able to send email without issue using the Verizon setup in Xpress mail. I am going to disable my pop one for now and keep it as a backup.
Let me know if everyone one else is able to try it out! ![]()

Stevepse, thanks for the heads up...
I wonder what AT&T is waiting for to officially announce this fix. I guess end users are not ready yet, but maybe some day.

Our little friend the S7122 error has raised it's head again. I'm going back to the fix one of our other members suggested.

Try re-registering xpress mail using "other pop" as the email provider. On the incoming server put incoming.verizon.net (port 110, does not require SSL), for user name put just the first part of the email address (before the @ sign), for outgoing server put cwmx.com (port 25, does not require SSL or authentication).
Should work. Good luck!

I'll shot an email off to the level three tech and see what she says ![]()

Setting the outgoing server to
cwmx.com
will work as mentioned previously in this thread ...
No authentication,
No SSL,
Use your FULL EMAIL ADDRESS as the username
And apparently use "cwmx.com" as the outgoing server for ALL your pop accounts ... I got one of my accounts (private domain) to work using the normal assigned domain SMTP server ... but cwmx.com works for this too ...
My question is ... if "you should use cwmx.com for all accounts" why does ATT not set this as the default for xpress mail?

cwmx.com will only work when you are connected to the AT&T cellular network. If you are connected over Wi-Fi, then sending through cwmx will fail. (I'm not 100% certain if use of cwmx is possible from a AT&T Wi-Fi hotspot.) This is because your "authentication" is the fact you're connecting through AT&T's network and not from somewhere else.
So for those that need to switch between using email between the cellular network and Wi-Fi (or other) network, cwmx is not feasable or at the very least, is inconvinient. Thus the reason for not defaulting to cwmx.com. (At least one reason anyway.)
So the answer to your question about using cwmx for all your accounts is maybe. If you only use the cellular network for data, then you can use cwmx for all your accounts.

Well, I hate to say this, but my first-hand experience contradicts asatoran's comment.
I have set up TWO different accounts (one is Verizon, the other a purchased domain) on my e71x, and I have sent email while connected by wifi and while configured to use cwmx.com as the outgoing server.
With no ssl or additional authentication.
Works fine.
My wifi is connected via Verizon FiOS ... it might be interesting to try the same configuration while connected to a different provider. I will try that at a friend's Cablevision-served connection, and let you know!

Many phones fall back to cellular when necessary. Perhaps cwmx confirms you're on the cellular network. If your phone has some mode that can disable the cellular, but keep Wi-Fi enabled, that would be definite confirmation. Or configure a desktop PC to send using cwmx.com. (or some other PC without a cellular connection.) The "authentication" to cwmx AFAIK, is by connectivity to the cellular network, not by SSL or username/password. So connecting to a different Wi-Fi would probably give the same results UNLESS you can disconnect from the cellular network, while still connecting to Wi-Fi (or some other internet connectivity.) Thus the need to turn off the cellular radio or to use a desktop PC without a cellular card, (preferrably one that's not using AT&T DSL as well.)

I don't wish to make this an argument ... but I can confirm that my e71x was connected by wifi (it is possible to set the xpressmail configuration to connect only by wifi ... not "default" or "priority" but "only") ...
I see your point and what you say makes logical sense. Had I not proven it to myself, I would have agreed with your points entirely.
Can anyone else confirm cwmx.com connectivity under wifi?
BTW ... I will be a humble user, and try it again ... I promise to be the first to admit it if what I claim is not the case.

I just tried it again ... the e71x connects to cwmx.com ... and as far as I can tell, it connects via wifi. First, I have the "access point" setting in xpressmail set for wifi, and second, when the message is sent, the wifi indicator "lights up" and the email is sent. I quickly checked connection manager to see if the wireless access had been switched on, but it either was not, or I wasn't fast enough. :-)
I also tried to configure an outlook account on my pc using the same settings as those on the e71x. Indeed, it failed to connect to cwmx.
I have NO EXPLANATION for why it works on the e71x but not on the pc ... except to agree that it must be secretly connecting to the wireless network. However, I see no evidence that this is happening, and my settings are configured to use wifi only.
MOST IMPORTANTLY ... I don't need to use wifi on my phone in my house for my email ... I have a computer for that! The important message for ALL ATT WIRELESS USERS is to IGNORE the "preset" verizon email settings ... and to set up your verizon.net email account (if you have one) using the generic POP3 setting ... use cwmx.com as your smtp server, and leave authentication and ssl OFF.
Although ... and this is funny ... I haven't tested those settings on a "proxyless" wireless connection yet!

Without turning OFF the cellular raido on your phone, you cannot be certain that cwmx is NOT verifying your device over the cellular network. You have BOTH a Wi-Fi connection AND a cellular connection simultaneously unless you can disable the cellular radio on phone while NOT disabling the Wi-Fi radio on the phone. (Cell phones often have an "airplane mode", but this normally disables both the celluar and Wi-Fi radios, as well as the Bluetooth radio.) It doesn't matter that you're showing connected to Wi-Fi if you don't turn off the cellular radio. The point of most cell phones is to always have the celluar radio on, otherwise why bother making the device a cellphone instead of a iPod or a Gameboy. ![]()
Thus the recommendation to configure a desktop PC to use cwmx. When I have a few minutes, I'll try it, but I might not have an answer soon due to other deadlines I need to meet tonight.

Using Outlook Express on a desktop Windows PC connecting through Time Warner Telecom, sending to cwmx.com:
without SSL

with SSL for SMTP
![]()

Socket error 10060 is a timeout error, often caused if SMTP server refuses connection due to you not being on the ISP's network. (The other error you may see is 550 or 553, "Relay denied.) The usual fix is to configure your mail client to use authentication. But since you don't have a username/password to authenticate with, this solution is not possible.
BTW, not trying to brag or anything, but I have been the email administrator at my current job and my last job, and prior I was assisting the network and email admins at the college I was attending at the time. While I was in college, that was the time that the industry first started denying relaying from "non-local" SMTP to reduce spam. Prior to that, many SMTP servers allowed unathorized access. I had demonstrated that to some of the Deans on campus to show how someone could have been using the computer labs to send threataning messages. [There was a couple of incidents.]
But in the past 10+ years of my working with email servers, I have found all email servers have been configured to not allow relaying or require authentication. [The exceptions are companies that have misconfigured their servers, usually small businesses without dedicated or experienced IT staff.] This is a general accected and followed rule for configuring mail servers nowdays: that you have to be authenticated either by "physically" being on the ISP's network or by username/password, sometimes both. So I would be very surprised if my above tests with Outlook Express were successful in sending mail because that would mean AT&T would be a prime target for spammers. Or rather, AT&T would be a prime tool for spammers to use to send their spam.
Thus my statement that it is possible your phone and CWMX is "falling back" to the cellular connection to authenticate your device. Since you do appear to be able to send thruogh CWMX while connected over Wi-Fi, consider yourself lucky. Many others in the past have reported they were not successful with their devices, and have had to use their ISP's SMTP server configured with authentication instead of CWMX.

I hate to add to this forum after all this time, but I am one of those who can vouch that this is not just a verizon problem. I have Time Warner and I cannot send mail over regular smtp. After seeing this post and reinstalling using cwmx.com. Now I am reading an error. S7900 its telling me the program is updating.
I'll try again later. I wondering was I supposed to enter smtp-server.cwmx.com? That would make a difference.

No, the correct address is just "cwmx.com", without the quotes. (Unlike Time Warner which uses the addresses of smtp-server.roadrunner.com & pop-server.roadrunner.com, for example.)

Not to add fuel to the fire, but over a year from the original post date, I continue to have the exact same problem.
I get the following message when attempting to configure Xpressmail:
"Error S7122: Cannot connect to the server. Please check your connection and try again."
the account I'm using is a personal domain accoung (lindseymd.com).
Mail for exchange works fine. MediaNet works fine. Opera for Symbian works fine.
I'm using a Nokia E71x. Would not recommend this P-O-S phone to my worst enemy.
BTW - have tried Nokia Mail - works ok, but it causes these weird glitches where I get question marks and phantom boxes on my Messages menu. Very annoying, so I deleted it.

Thought I would join because of this problem. I started getting this error too. It started yesterday June 4, 2010. I am using two accounts. One is a standard yahoo account setup using the Yahoo option in xpressmail. The second is a godaddy email account through secureserver.net and is setup through other pop in xpressmail. Both of thim have started failing to retrieve mail and give me the error S7122. I've removed and re-downloaded xpressmail and now I can't even set up one of my email accounts because of this error.
I know this is probably a hopeless post since a true solution was never offered after 5 pages of posts from over a year ago, but thought I'd add my name to the list of customers with a failed xpressmail. I'd love to find out if there is ever a solution to this problem. Versamail is nowhere near as good in my opinion, but I guess that's what I'll use (of course it doesn't work for my Yahoo account since it doesn't actually have pop for the free yahoo accounts).
Oh, and I am using a Palm Centro by the way. This is clearly not related to a single phone, but to xpressmail and something with servers or software somewhere...kind of ridiculous that a solution was never given.

Same here -- Palm Treo 680 and XPressMail. It worked fine up to midmorning yesterday 6/4/10 and then I kept getting S7122 for the rest of today and it continues today. My XPressMail is checking THREE different email accounts (two Earthlink and one GMAIL) which use different server settings.
I don't like not being able to get my email on my phone so I am going back to the Palm MAIL application in the meantime. I am able to connect to the Web and do all other GPRS/network functions on my 680 so something seems to be wonky with Xpressmail specifically and its connection to servers. I'll keep poking around and post any solutions I come up with.
I agree -- pretty ridiculous that a solution was never established for this (apparently pretty common issue.) I guess I was lucky it worked as long as it did.

I recently removed the Xpressmail program and installed the Windows Live email option on my Winmo 6.5 Samsung Jack. It uses the same interface and function as the old Xpressmail, but I have not had any major service / connection issues since switching.
I didn't want to ditch Xpressmail, but the constant 7122 / 7123 errors have plagued me for 2+ years.

Well mine kicked back in and started working again. Sunday night, 6-6-10, I went to try and set up the xpressmail again and it worked without problem. It is now syncing both of my accounts....however push mail isn't working anymore. I only get new messages by manuall checking (sending and receiving) for new mail. Frusturating still, but I can live with this better than no mail.
