There is apparently a massive (says AT&T) problem that has been affecting service all day yet no one in Technical Services can pick up a phone when a concerned customer holds the line for over 45 minutes to get an explanation. I was about to cancel my DSL out of frustration when I was cajoled into keeping it. At this point I'm just praying that Google decides to bring their service to my area because, man, AT&T's DSL is not worth the monthly charge with this shoddy service.

Recorded message says DSL outage and no tech staff can speak.
Problem was revealed to me when AT&T asked me to D/L a file!

I'm just north of you in Wheaton, and have been experiencing the same problem since yesterday afternoon. But, a friend who lives a mile or so from me in Glen Ellyn is not. She says she's had no problems at all. Go figure.

Update: after two technical support service phone calls 1-866 757 9804, an hour each, I learned this national DSL outage expected solution will be before Friday 10-August AM. Their successful temporary work around, was for technical support to create a new the DSL modem (not router) password for me, have me updated the PPPoE password in the network preferences, and connect the DSL modem ethernet cable directly to my laptop, not use the wireless router.
Now I have to learn how to configure my wireless router to talk to my DSL modem as the AT&T service for Apple router products is a one year contract for $120.

If your DSL modem password is changed, then for users of Apple Airport Extreme connection, use these instructions:
note: "Connect using" select PPPoE. Account Name - enter your primary AT&T account name which should be something like myemail@att.net.
Password - This is your special DSL network password - NOT your regular email password.
