Im a fast access dsl 1.5 mb customer. I have an upgrade in to go to 6.0
Its been quite a whikle since I set up my router...but I know i have some hard coded DNS ip addresses in my router settings.
These addresses are for Mississippi and Alabama. To be perfectly honest I'm not real sure why I hard coded them, probably as a work around for a problem
1. can anyone here verify the link with that information
I'm thinking this might be it
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r16823975-Services
2. Will they need to change once they move me to a higher speed...I'm hoping not
Many Thanks

You can use those or a public DNS server like Googles (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as your DNS servers). There are more like OpenDNS, etc, etc. Just search for Free/Open DNS.

Just to clarify a few things:
Do you know what a DNS server is and what it does?
"An often-used analogy to explain the Domain Name System is that it serves as the phone book for the Internet by translating human-friendly computer hostnames into IP addresses. For example, the domain name www.example.com translates to the addresses 192.0.32.10 (IPv4) and 2620:0:2d0:200::10 (IPv6)."
You won't NEED to change DNS servers unless you're moving. Upgrading speeds won't change that, but the ISP's DNS servers aren't always the fastest. Like I mentioned in the other post there are free public DNS servers anyone can use like Google, FreeDNS, OpenDNS and so on.
I've been using 4.2.2.3 (Primary) 4.2.2.5 (Secondary).
Here's a short list:
Google DNS:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
DNS Advantage:
156.154.70.1
156.154.71.1
OpenDNS:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
VNSC-pri.sys.gtei.net:
4.2.2.1
4.2.2.2
4.2.2.3
4.2.2.4
4.2.2.5
4.2.2.6

Hello dslconvert,
I extend my gratitude to you for contacting us about this issue through the forums and please, accept my sincere apologies for any inconvenience
that you have experienced.
The DNS servers are automatically assigned to your DSL modem. However, it is still okay to hard code the DNS servers as long as it is the one assigned by the AT&T server. Changing your speed plan would not require you to hard code the DNS servers on your modem.

"However, it is still okay to hard code the DNS servers as long as it is the one assigned by the AT&T server."
That statement is complete and utter nonsense. There is no problem using a Public DNS server and most of the time they're faster than the ISP's. For people that don't know what they're doing, sure it's probably best and easiest to leave it set to automatically get it from the ISP, but there is nothing that says you HAVE to use them. You should really know what you're talking about before posting a statement like that.
I'm a network admin (15+ years) and have several Cisco/Microsoft certifications so I'm not your typical end user. I wouldn't be surprised if this post gets edited/removed like one of my other posts.

Where's my option to mark it as complete FUD?
Just a little excerpt: By spreading questionable information about the drawbacks of less well known products, an established company can discourage decision-makers from choosing those products over its own, regardless of the relative technical merits.
