Can you define what is a legacy customer.? I have a few @bellsouth email addresses. They are tied into my business and electronic payment logins etc. I am considering dropping both dsl and phone service in favor of cable internet and a majic jack. I need to know for sure if my email in particular will survive. It will take a year or more for me to be sure I have captured everyone and every subscription renewal that comes through that email address. I do not think I ever had a Yahoo Id and so if a merge of accounts took place it was not my doing. I don't speak all of this technical POP whatever lingo. I just need to know if I can keep the @bellsouth address or if it will force me to change to an @yahoo address and how much time I will have to make the transition. I use outlook so I am not concerned about losing the email history. I just want to be sure I will not miss renewal reminders and customers who try to reach me through my current address who may be overlooked in the notification of change efforts that I will make.

I read this post and just want to make sure I understand this correctly.
I currently use Uverse Internet and have a Bellsouth.net email account. If I cancel my Uverse email service, are you saying that I will maintain my email accounts with Bellsouth.net - without making any changes?

I have kept my bellsouth.net email address for 2 years since cancelling uVerse (did not cancel by choice... a move to an area that does not have uVerse forced the cancellation)...
Now.. for a crazy question... How do I change my password for my email address now that I no longer have uVerse? I ussed to do so via uVerse login, but I don't have that any longer.... very confused!!!

How were you able to keep the bellsouth.net email account after cancelling? They are now telling me you can't. No one seems to be responding to my post.

Even though the written terms of service, several customer support agents, and this website promise that you can keep your email address, your are best advised to get a new, free email address from some other service (like gmail) and start migrating all of your saved email and contacts to that address as soon as you decide to cancel your DSL. I relied on the promises when I cancelled my account (moved out of the ATT service area) and kept my legacy email only to find my service suspended without warning. Completely blocked from my account. Took me two hours on the phone to get it unblocked and even then they could not promise that it would not be suspended again without warning. And sure enough, two months later they blocked access again. Don't let that happen to you.

Below is the post from another forum. Does the unmerge from yahoo mean you loose the bellsouth.net domain for your email after 60 days?
http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB4002
After canceling your High Speed Internet service, you will receive complimentary Dial service for 60 days, which includes full access to your AT&T Yahoo! account. If you attempt to log into the Yahoo! network (att.yahoo.com) using your Yahoo! ID and password after 60 days, you will be given the option to unmerge your Yahoo! ID. If after 100 days you have not unmerged your Yahoo! ID, it will automatically be unmerged.

You will still use your same login to change password.
To correctly maintain your free email accounts make sure that you update your security questions and answers and use an alternate email address for your contact email address. This way when your password no longer works all you need to do is go to att.com (official website) and click on forgot password. Enter your AT&T email address for your user id and you'll have 2 options, Receive a temporary password via contact email address or Answer Security Questions. Answers to your security questions are case sensitive so make sure that you notate you answers clearly with capital letters when you update your questions and answers.
