Same Issue: DSL Not available. Fiber optic cable runs down the front of my property and I am less than 1/2 mile from the AT&T wireless tower in Gholson, TX 76705.
I think it would be easier to find out the launch codes from President Obama than to find out AT&T's expansion plans. EVERYONE I email, chat with, or talk to on the phone at AT&T says "we do not have that information". They are very apologetic, but they cannot tell you who to contact.
Just like rlworkman's entry in this forum, I need to work remotely from home, and dial up and 3G wireless are not fast enough. I also wouldn't mind knowing if 4G will be available this year from that AT&T tower in Gholson, TX.
Does anyhone from AT&T ever look at this forum. It does not appear that they do based on the entries I see. So, what is the point of having a forum if no one ever looks at it?

I have been checking back for the last 5 years to see if DSL was available in my area but always the same answer "Try back later". I'm ready to try satellite and quit with AT&T.

Ten frickin' years for me. I'm beyond angry. And no one will say anything.
To add insult to injury, every now and then I get calls from AT&T reps saying DSL has come to my area and offering to sign me up. Then, when they actually check the availability. "Oh, sorry. Guess not."

BTW, I tried satellite a few years back and was very unhappy with it. Ended up going back to my ISDN. If you search around, all you find is horror stories. Mine had much better gross bandwidth for large downloads, but the latency was so awful, I couldn't use telnet or ssh (which I need for my job), or do online gaming (which I do for fun).

A AT&T employee told me back about November of last year that AT&T was going to start running cable here where I am, Vinson Mountain Road in Rockmart Ga, Starting in Jan. So far I haven't seen the first truck up here running cable. Right now we are stuck on dial up. AT&T dial up sucks the big one. Right now as far as I know DSL is only a mile up the road from me (North) in one direction and about two miles from me in another. (South) What I would like to know is when are we going to get DSL here? This is ridiculous. DSL North and South of me but leave out everyone in the middle.
I know within reason that there is over a thousand homes up here that would love to have DSL. But for whatever reason AT&T sits back on it's collective thumbs and does nothing. I wish there was another provider close to me. I would drop AT&T's sorry dial up in a heart beat. I guess when you have the market cornered you can do what you please. Leave out who you please. Why should a corporate giant like AT&T care if a thousand homes have DSL or not?

Forget trying to call the main AT&T numbers, they don't know jack...
If you want to know what's going on in your area, catch a AT&T service truck and talk to the guy. At the very least he should have the phone number for the service supervisor in the area, which you can talk to them and they can give you the full details. Likewise it helps them know that someone wants service and they can see what they can do.

Been there and done that. Apparently he lied. It was one of there service guys that told me they were going to start running cable here in Jan. I think he just told me that to get rid of me and give me faults hope.

Good luck guys, you will need it.
What we really need is a new kind of ISP unfettered by existing cable or copper networks, those two mediums are fully monopolized in this country and AT&T, Comcast and the other dirty denizens are not going to let go of their monopolies.
I have read about some ISP projects that are about low-altitude balloons or other airborne vessels that were to deliver internet to everyone in the areas they cover. Not sure what the feasability level is today, but imagine if a project like that could get off the ground (literally). Wifi technology is getting better and better, and in terms of speed it can easily rival AT&Ts pitiful DSL offerings. Especially now when they are about to take us back to the 1990ies with their bandwidth caps.

What I think they should do is take the lines that they took down for the new fiber optic cables and give those to the needy. I am suprise that our phone line even works anymore because it is so old and spliced into so many times. I must say do not get satellite. There is limits on it and if you hit it then it is slow time for you. Also expensive. I just wish corporate would think of all of the little people who are willing to pay more for what most everyone else has. I live by a major road and I still can't get it.

Have been asking for years when is this going to be available. I have filled out the "would you like to be notified when DSL comes available in your area" probably 30 times over the last 7 - 8 years. If they actually check those it seems they would know people are interested. I am like several other people on here with fiber being run in there area but just not far enough to provide us service. We have ATT fiber optics run down our road but stops as soon it reaches the first resident, 1/2 mile from my house and about 20 other homes. Makes no sense to me at all. I have called and no one ever knows anything about when it will be available. Extremely frustrating.

Been waiting on DSL to get to my area and it just doesn't ever happen. Smithville Telephone just 20 miles away has everyone outfitted with DSL. It is a very good company. It's very regrettable that they can't come into the area.
Maybe the laws will change. It is my opinion that if the laws state where the phone companies areas are, then they should also make these companies have their services available to everyone. At least make them work at it a little. I don't think AT&T is doing anything to expand their DSL, if they are, it is a very very slow process for them.
I also live in a populated area and just don't understand why no expansion. And, same thing, when I call, I get no information at all and they can't tell me who I could possibly talk to.

You dont want it!! We have Elite, but it cuts in and out causing download speed to drop to almost 0. And the customer service is awful!!! I would stay away from AT&T!!!

I'm finally getting mine. They finally ran cable up here to where I am. Almost a year after when they said they would. Either way, I got it. Supposed to be getting hooked up Tues the 4th 10/4/2011. Once hooked up I will post here on how good it is. Right now I have a pretty good dial out speed. 49.2 My computer moves pretty good at this speed. I better see a really good improvement for what I am going to be paying.![]()
