My AT&T/Yahoo email messages are being deleted after 25 months!

I have AT&T/Yahoo email. I've stored my email in various folders in my email account. I've been doing this for over 10 years. I just noticed that emails older than 25 months have been deleted. I have nothing older than June 3rd, 2010.

Is this the result of a policy about delete old emails? If not, can anyone tell me why this is happening?

Is there any way to restore these lost emails (some of them have important information, which we were storing) and a way to prevent future deletions?

I just noticed that all my saved att.net e-mail in folders prior to 05-2010 has been deleted without any notice or indication that the e-mail retention policy has changed. I'm an Internet Dial $7.95 (soon to be $12.95) per month customer and not a free att/yahoo e-mail account. The retention policy since day one was e-mail would NOT BE DELETED from the server except by the user. What is going on here?
