Me again. It's a day later and I've been dead in the water for 2-3 hrs with no emal, unless I use the on-line Yahoo acct. None of the "solutions" on this forum nor others have worked. When they seem to work short term, it's because the problem - for me at least - clears itself automatically then reappears an hour or day or a week later.
Is there any light at the end of the tunnel on this? I'm staring at another prompt for UserName/Password as I type. For a while, I thought Gmail might be a solution and had my mail forwarded there, but that's dead too and for obvious reasons if you think about. How can the server forward the mail if it won't authenticate my UserName/Password?
How about some real help from AT&T and not the usual advice about changing server settings to inbound.att.net/outbound.att.net, etc., etc..... that does not help at all. It's a deeper problem that has nothing to do with our local settings.

I was having an issue in receiving email on one account in Outlook 2007 (sending worked fine). I tried all the changes I could find, including the ones in this thread, and finally just changed the password in webmail and then updated the password in the Outlook account and that worked (so far).

This problem started intermittently several months ago, would occur on multiple PC's yet worked fine on iphone. Finally blocked 100% until reset password then okay for several weeks. AT&T absolutely useless in addressing this issue of AT&T server rejecting Outlook.

Just sent this out {Personal content removed for your safety} President AT&T suggest you do the same.
I have contacted AT&T directly 6~7 times over the last several months in order to resolve an issue between AT&T and computer based mail programs.
Microsoft Outlook
Windows Live Mail
Mozilla Thunderbird
What has been occurring is the failure to authenticate properly between the AT&T server and any computer based mail software. I have tried everything suggested including;
- Confirmation of password
- Confirmation of Settings
- Deleting Account from software and reinstall
- Changing server between (pop.att.yahoo.com, & inbound.att.net)
Still to no avail, yet can go to webmail where I can send, receive with no problems. As a last ditch effort if I reset password in my profile the software based (Outlook, Live) work for about a week then it goes down. Needless to say I’m frustrated at AT&T’s lack of addressing this issue since it appears to be widespread based on several forums http://forums.att.com/t5/Email-Internet-Security/O
I have had service with AT&T for many years including
- Personal wireless
- Business wireless
- DSL
- Home Phone
- Long distance
Can you check into this matter in order to resolve, & I’ll be awaiting your reply.

After sending letter to CEO several days ago I received call from Atlanta office where someone took my issue and was going to have tech support contact me. I called again after 24hours then some SOB called me back (absolute lack of intelligence) and kept giving me the script that this was not AT&T problem. Refused any further help on the matter, he actually acknowledge the problem but refused to resolve because AT&T email works on web based. I am totally fed up with them, this started late last year after running smoothly for several years. Leads me to believe Yahoo is demanding only web based in order to get advertising dollars.

Well....my dialog box disappeared for several months and has reappeared with a vengeance. Thanks, AT&T.
From my experience, there is no point in calling AT&T since they are clueless. At some point, they are going to flip a switch or do something with their server which will make the box go away again. Their customer service is non-existent.
FWIW, I am now having a problem with Yahoo servers and my Blackberry. Blackberry has excellent customer service and is trying to get AT&T/Yahoo to fix the issue.
If this continues, I will finally bite the bullet and change my email address from AT&T, which I have had for at least 15 years. My cell phone account is coming up for renewal soon too and I'll take that with me elsewhere.
Do not let AT&T tell you that this is an Outlook issue or any other kind of issue. It is solely an AT&T issue.

OK Peeps - Here is the fix...FINALLY!!!
After weeks of beating my head against the %@$#!*% wall, I decided to call AT&T one last time and would not get off the phone until I talked to a senior level 2 tech. Well I got lucky after "India" transferred me back to the states and got on the phone with someone that understood what the he!! I was talking about. Here is everyone's problem:
If you notice, almost everyone that is having the problem uses webmail. A few months ago as some of you have noticed, Yahoo mail started asking for a Image Verification after entering your username and password. It would not ask all the time though, thus being the problem - Your password was not being permantly saved through the image verication process on the servers. That is because the migration of passwords did not occur properly when they implemented this feature and some accounts were corrupted. If you managed to get the Image Verification when signing on your webmail, then your email client (Outlook, Windows Mail, etc) would temporarily start working again. Now here is the fix:
1. Close your email client and do not reopen it until step 6 or 7.
2. Sign into your ATT.COM account.
3. Navigate to your email account settings.
4. Chane your password for the email address you are having the problem with.
5. Go to your Yahoo Webmail and sign in with your username and password, you should now get an Image Verification. Complete this sign in process. Your username and new password will now be saved on the servers.
**6 If you want to keep this password, then open your email client and enter your new password. Everything should be back to normal.
**7 If you want to change your password back to your old password so you don't have to go back and change all of your other devices, then repeat steps 2-5, entering your old password.
****In the event step 7 does not allow you to change your password back to your original password, then you will have to call AT&T and have them reset your password to your email account. Once they have changed your password to a temp password, you will have to follow these steps:
Using the temp password, follow step 5 above, then step 2-5 again.
THE TRICK HERE IS TO HAVE THE SERVERS SAVE YOUR USERNAME AND PASSWORD USING THE "IMAGE VERIFICATION" PROCESS. ONCE IT DOES, YOUR INFORMATION IS STORED AND YOUR EMAIL CLIENT WILL WORK AGAIN.
Hope this helps!

I'm having the same problem. Accessed webmail from the road yesterday, had to change my password. Now Outlook won't work from home. Same UserName and Password box continually popping up as others are mentioning. Tried setup in Outlook to be sure password was updated. No progress. Have checked other settings, too. U-verse support isn't able to solve the problem although it is obvious that the U-verse change is related to the Outlook problem. Using Yahoo netmail isn't an acceptable option longterm although I can at least get to new messages there for the moment.
Any advice?

If you call AT&T as I did today, they may tell you that it's not an AT&T issue but it's a problem with your Outlook server. I repeatedly told them that it IS AT&T but they only escalated the call until I agreed to pay for a "specialist" who could work with Outlook since it was outside the realm of AT&T. If the logon box pops up repeatedly and does not accept your network password, look at details. See if it's a 530 authenticity error with a long yahoo help site listed. We have had this problem before with AT&T and told them it was not Outlook and that it was fixed on the AT&T side, had nothing to do with Outlook software. Thanks to remote capability, I watched what the specialist did. She went to att.net and logged on at the Member Center (instead of the Please Sign In click). That was the fix to my problem. So that is AT&T not Outlook. The specialist clarified that it was not an Outlook problem and that everyone clicks on Please Sign In here instead of Member Center after changing their password on att.net. However, loggin in from Member Center authenticates the password so you can get into Outlook. We had the same logon window repeatedly pop up time to time when we were Comcast customers and after speaking to several techs, someone fixed it on the comcast side. What happened to us was NEVER an Outlook software problem. I explained all this to three AT&T techs today but they kept insisting that they could do nothing, it had to do with the third party email software. I am hoping my posting here today keeps someone from wasting $49 (or $180 which they offered first), or wasting nearly two hours with tech support as we did this morning.

Here is a fix I found on this forum that is working for me: Log into your webmail account (yahoo mail). Once you have logged in, then Outlook will function normally. Supposedly, this is supposed to work for 30 days, but it hasn't done that for me. This seemed to start when I had AT&T reset my password (I had forgotten it) when I got a new Iphone, so it was either the password change or the Iphone. It is not, I repeat not, something you did or your email client issue.

I have followed the directions of several of the posters here and the following does seem to work. If you try to log into the Member Center (att.net) right now, with your current password, it will tell you the password is incorrect, even if you can log into att.com. (They should be synced, but.....)
Directions:
- Log into ATT.COM with your current password. Reset your password under PROFILE
- Go to ATT.NET, and in the top right hand corner of the screen, you will see the option for MEMBER CENTER.
- Log in using the new password.
- Reset your password in Mozilla or Outlook to match
You should now be able to use IMAP or POP settings described by AT&T.

My problem isn't with Outlook, it's my AT&T email acct, makes me sign in over & over again. I've called technical support twice & tied up over an hour with them but nothing was resolved. Tried the fix shown here with image verification but it didn't work. It is SO ANNOYING!

Holy Crap...2 days and 4 hours later..I took the advice to log into att.net member center, after that I was good to go except the 4500 emails that were saved on my web account that wanted to be loaded on my Outlook.....
Really at&t... The poor guys in India that I struggled to get help from and then wanted me to pay for help, you guys should be ashamed of yourselves for this KNOWN problem you keep insisting is an Outlook issue, the guy on the phone was insisting it was my email program, did he not understand me when I told him my laptop was not loading also, that it was an issue on your side.....embarrassing

I was finally able to get back into Outlook by downloading and installing Outlook Connector. I did remove and reinstall my email address using the pop.att.net etc codes that are contained elsewhere in this thread. I hope this works for someone else.

Could be a router going bad. Had the same symptoms until something else occurred which pointed at the router. Changed it out and no problems since. I'll post if I have the problem again.

Interesting that you bring that up, since I don't trust the router I'm using right now (it seems to be running on bought time, like you suggested). I do find it strange, however, that it's not like there's a connection timing out issue. That would seem more indicative of a hardware failure to me. I also find it strange that the issue seems to be fixed by visitng the member's center.
Speaking of bad routers, I wonder how many people here are using the 2wire RGs...?

Thanks for the info, I got it to work but with a different twist!
Been getting the popup password messages in Outlook 2007, recently, whenever I tried to send or receive email.
SOLUTION: pulled up my ATT.NET webmail site, logged in using my Outlook (bellsouth) password, which happens to be also the same password I use for Att.net web mail access, but this time in signed in using "Member Center" access link. It asked to authenticate my password by displaying the Image Verification I had recently created on a different Yahoo webmail account! Go figure this one out!!
Voila! after that there were no more pop ups when I signed in with Outlook.
I can verify it is NOT an Outlook problem, but rather att/yahoo.

Generally, signing into the members area once has been enough for most of us.

I used the trick of logging into www.yahoo.com not att.yahoo.net and it worked. Outlook will now send and receive e-mails. Problem started when my client changed his password. I'm sure this is just a temp fix and I will hear from my client tomorrow.

att wants the 16 dollars a month to contstantly "re-sync" the password so that customers with outlook clients can continue to receive their emails.
none ot these solutions, ie logging into web mail to do it last very long.
this is by design.
i would recomend that anyone on att email find a way to get off it. but till then
setup a free gmail account, ie user@gmail.com
then go into gmail and make sure the account can be poped or imaped (your choice)
then setup the account in outlook and delete the att account . then go into the att web based mail and forward all mail to it.
that's it. problem solved forever. no more calls to india or whatever about outlook not accepting your password.

Hi,
I am sorry if you're having so much trouble with your Outlook 2007. If you have already tried logging on to www.att.net, then you can unlock your account using the login.att.net. After that, make sure that your incoming mail server is set to pop.att.yahoo.com and port 995 SSL checked, then outgoing mail server is smtp.att.yahoo.com port 465 SSL checked. Also, ensure that the log on using SPA is not checked else, the user name and password will keep on popping up even if you entered the correct password.
To test if your settings are working, you can send a test email to autobounce@att.net and it will automatically send a reply once the test mail is received.
Hope this helps.
