Have no clue why this has been required for the past two weeks.

Your workaround method does work for me but how often do I need to login and logout from mail.yahoo.com? Every 6 hours? Every 12 hours? Everyday? Anyway, for now, I can download my almost 2 weeks of mails to outlook. A very stupid way but it does work.... well sort fo. Now I believe it's has something to do with ATT & Yahoo server not communicating correctly. ATT is our ISP and not Yahoo,we are payng ATT. ATT can't blame Yahoo for this. Hope ATT will do something about this and stop denying the issue. Thanks.

I only login once every 24 hours to mail.yahoo.com to get Outlook to work with Yahoo mail. I think ATT&T and Yahoo share the blame for this problem. Yahoo mail changed their login security procedures a few weeks ago since many of their email accounts were getting hacked.(IMHO). AT&T hasn't adapted to this change yet. Hopefully they will soon.

I totally agree with you.... However, AT&T is our ISP.... We are paying AT&T a monthly fee for our service and not Yahoo! It is AT&T responsibility to hear our voice and investigate.... And not try push us to their ConnecTech department. I hope AT&T will see the issue and try to fix this issue and not letting us keep using workaround.

This works! Don't know why but I can send and recieve emails through Outlook ONLY if I am logged into my email account on the att website. Once I enter my user name and password, emails start to fly into my Outlook inbox.
This is not a fix, but will suffice until ATT fixes whatever this problem is between Outlook and ATT. I hope this is not a marketing ploy to get all their internet customers signed up for ConnectTech @ $15.99 per month!
I am in the process of leaving Time Warner's Roadrunner for AT&T, however, if this email issue is not resolved by the end of the month, I'm going to hook my RR modem back up and send back the AT&T wireless modem.
Just sayin'

After 12 calls to ATT and spending over 15 hours on the phone with them over the last 14 days, I'm still right where I was with the problems that all of you are having. It started the weekend of March 9. So, for 2 weeks I have been TRYING to explain to ATT they have a problem. I use Outlook 2007 and ATT continues to tell me it is an Outlook problem, but I have apersonal tech person who has also spent hours on my computer telling me that ALL of his ATT clients are having this problem. Since I didn't believe him, he put another e-mail client on my computer to prove to me that it was not going to work either and it didn't. I'm sure that all of you, like me, just continue to have the "enter Id/password" message come up. I've been using the work around for a week of logging in and out of Yahoo web mail, but yesterday afternoon that started being unreliable so today I'm not able to get mail in Outlook. I finally called customer support and asked them to create a trouble ticket - perhaps all of you should do that. The tech support number is just blowing us off and trying to make us use ConnectTech for a fee - when THE PROBLEM IS NOT ON OUR END. I don't see how it can be anything but a server problem. I also made customer service go to the ATT forums and read all of these e-mails that have appeared over the last few weeks. When you do a search of" Outlook 2010 e-mail problems - Yahho - ATT" you will see hundreds of e-mails just like these.
So - Call Customer Service - complain, complain - make them read all of these Forum mails about it - create a trouble ticket - make them research THEIR problem and don't quit until it's done. I'm tired - very tired of spending so much time on this just so I can get my mail in Outlook. Yahoo mail is a waste of time as there is little you can do to organize it or use it.

Are any of your having any luck with AT&T?
I have some customers having this exact same issue and they are getting super annoyed. Per AT&T instruction, I changed our pop and smtp servers to inbound.att.net and outbound.att.net using the same ports and ssl as before and am still having this same issue. Logging into the webmail before opening outlooks seems to work but, is really just silly.
Has anyone tried resetting their passwords? I know it's silly but, that's my next step. I am trying to avoid that because I'll have to change settings on a bunch of pc's and cell phones. I thought I would see if anyone had tried that yet and maybe save myself an afternoon.

I just had the same thing happen. Tried to change my password and all of a sudden i can't get into my email through Windows Live mail. Had support remotely control my computer to make sure all the settings were correct and they were-- still doesn't work. And now can't get my bellsouth email on my phone either-- I hadn't touched the settings on that. They said it was my computer or something with Windows live that wasn't letting it accept the 'new' password-- the password hadn't been changed! Then only other option they gave me was to pay $50 for more tech support. i have tried all the possible setting including SSL and non SSL but it won't let me go back to what used to work. It sounds like I am not alone and that it is not my computer but this is frustrating-- I have had bellsouth for years and never had any problem like this. Has anyone found anything to help?

Better than creating a trouble ticket we should all call demanding a refund of your monthly internet service fee or at least 1/2 of it (that is what I am going to do for the past 3 months) since you have had this issue. $ talk and then maybe they will listen.
I have been dealing with this for 5 months !! and no solution from ATT so I am changing my email (yes painful but I don't have any confidence that ATT will solve this anytime soon, and I cannot continue this way) based on my experience over the past 4+ months.

Thanks for the heads up on ConnecTech. When I called Customer Service yestesrday they tried to steer me over to that and I refuse to pay for tech support for something that's being caused by AT&T.

Certainly this issue is NOT solved. Very upset that I cannot discuss the issue with AT&T without being pushed to ConnectTech. Who is our ISP? If AT&T, then they have the obligation to at least open a ticket and record our issue. Sending us to a paid tech service is a travesty.
I've been having this issue since early/mid March out of the blue. No new software, OS, mailer, computer change or anything else. I followed all instructions to set up Outlook 2010 under WinXP through the inbound./outbound.att.net server names. Presently, I can have inbound.att.net work possibly through being online/logged into my webmail AT&T account at the same time. However, outbound.att.net would persistently not work, no matter what efforts I've tried.
Eventually, I checked my Mac and was able to send email through my sbcglobal.net account from the Mac Mailer. When I looked at the server name in the Preferences menu, it's listed as smtp.mail.yahoo.com I made the change into Outlook 2010 in WinXP, set SSL on, password verification, and port 465, and VOILA, my email was sent from Outlook!
I don't know what is driving this, although I believe it's a server communication issue between AT&T and Yahoo! -- perhaps not all accounts, regions or tenured customers are affected, but apparently AT&T or Yahoo or both have no desire or a clue on what's causing it.

I have been having problems since April 16 and now with nearly 3 weeks of archaic email form via ATT-yahoo, I want my Outlook back. I too refuse to pay for a third party outside the US to access my computer to fix it. I've spoken with numerous agents at ATT, even second level or tier tech support and they claimed they could not help and the problem lies with Outlook. Using Outlook worked for me for 9 months so why suddenly it quit is an enigma. I even took my computer to Besty Buy and had the Geek Squad work on it. A few times the suggestions made above worked but only for 1-24 hours. I'm pretty fed-up and after many years of being a fan of ATT am ready to throw in the towel.

I am having the same problem. Sometimes I can connect and others I get an error that says my password/id is incorrect or the connection to the server was interrupted.
I cannot get a straight answer from AT&T support. They always want to send you to their paid service. I would like them to post an answer to the problem.
If anyone has an answer, let me know.
I am using windows 7 prof, outlook 2010

After a frustrating morning, I had gathered enough between the other frustrated posters here and some internet searches to finally get my email BACK working on Outlook and my Galaxy Note. I ended up logging into Yahoo.com with my AT&T email first, because I had gotten a message that my account was locked when I tried to login to Yahoo on my Galaxy with my ATT email. After logging into Yahoo.com on my computer, I was able to login through the "Accounts and Sync" setting on my Galaxy settings page. That worked and all I had to do was hit "Enter" in Outlook with the settings that I had tried a million times before (inbound/outbound.att.net, and 995/465). I'm not all that confident from what I've read and what I've experienced myself that my email won't simply die AGAIN for no friggin' reason. Not a way to spend a Saturday morning. ![]()

I just registered for the forum after an hour of pointless ATT Customer non-Service discussion. And this is not the first time.
I am having the same issues as others in this thread. Reset my password and suddenly Outlook is no longer synching emails. Checked, double checked and rechecked the settings. Two clueless customer service reps later, and I am being pushed to their paying service. I am NOT paying to have this resolved. I am now so fed up with ATT that I will probably look for another provider. ATT has the WORST customer service I have EVER encountered.

Update to my earlier message. Just off the live chat with a customer rep, who went into my outlook via remote control. After going through all the steps I had already gone through numerous times, he declared that this was not an ATT problem but an Outlook problem and proceded to push me towards their fee based tech support.
I am done with ATT and will look for another provider.

FYI - ATT.net email DOES NOT work in Outlook 2011 for Mac as well as Thunderbird or Mac Mail.
Quite simmply this is an ATT issue probably connected to this:
https://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB401
I bet the Yahoo servers cannot tell which is a free att.net account and which is bundled with the paid internet service. Really need to dump these losers if they continue to team up with failing companies such as Yahoo

This has been a problem for more than a year. It is not an Outlook problem. My connections with other email servers work just fine. It is an AT&T problem which seems to be correlated with their integration, I use that term loosely, with Yahoo and the rollout of Uverse. I now have a new PC, which doesn't work with any of the solutions suggested here. I paid the fee/fine AT&T charges for real help a few months ago but it does come with a 1 year term. They were able to make things work. So I'll try and dig up that info. BTW, sometimes the AT&T folks can do a "refresh" or something like that on the account and thenthings work again. I'm glad AT&T doesn't carry airline passengers. This is really a massive ripoff of AT&T customers.

Hello,
So I am using Windows 7 SP1 with Outlook 2010. I had been able to successfully test receiving mail, but was still not able to get smtp to work correctly. I spent many hours troubleshooting like most of you have, and had been digging around in every possible venue i could think of, trying all the settings posted on the att website, forums, etc. all with no luck. I finally decided to try something different...
I setup my att.net mail account through my iphone by choosing the Yahoo! mail option (as I am aware that ATT is using Yahoo servers to host their mail and web portal content) and it worked fine... so I tried to look into the settings and see what SMTP server was being used, thinking that I could copy into Outlook and get it to work. Well it doesn't actually show the settings in there, it just says "Yahoo! SMTP Server"
So I did a quick little google search for "Yahoo! SMTP Server" and came up with http://email.about.com/od/accessingyahoomail/f/Yah
And it proposed ...
Answer: The Yahoo! MailSMTP server settings for sending mail through Yahoo! Mail from any email program are:
- Yahoo! Mail SMTP server address: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
- Yahoo! Mail SMTP user name: Your full Yahoo! Mail email address(including "@yahoo.com")
- Yahoo! Mail SMTP password: Your Yahoo! Mail password
- Yahoo! Mail SMTP port: 465
- Yahoo! Mail SMTP TLS/SSL required: yes
I also made sure to Select "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" and choose the "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" under the "Outgoing Server" settings in "More Settings..." options
This finally got it to work!!!
Hope this can help someone else.

Great tip!! After many months of trials and errors...I left all of the security settings recommended (995/SSL, 465/SSL) but changed the inbound.att.net and outbound.att.net back to pop.mail.yahoo.com and smtp.mail.yahoo.com. Voila! Back in business!

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR CONNECT TECH!!!!!!! They can not fix this issue no matter how long you stay on the phone or chat with them. After 2 or 3 hours of chatting, they will do the Yahoo log on and then proclaim they have fixed the problem by "changing many many setting". It will quit working in a day or two and you are back to where you started. I am trying to get my $15/month fee dropped. If I am unsuccessfull, I will file a complaint with the state public service commission. Connect tech is a rip off in this instance. They have a known problem, they cannot solve, yet they continue to push people into binding contracts for services that cannot solve this issue! File a complaint with your state public service commission or other utility regulatory agency.

I am a non-tech female and English isn't my native language. I registered this forum because I really want to reply this thread. Recently I switched from Comcast to ATT U-verse. The speed of its internet service is good for the price $24.95 and I got a rebate offer for the U-verse gateway. I felt satisfied with everything until I found my outlook2003 stopped working. I spent two nights searching for the solution and I contacted with the customer service both online and by phone. As other posters experienced, At&t keeps the advanced technical support from free. If I pay $50 a month for their technical support, it will kill the deal. I would rather stick with my old Comcast! Finally and luckily, I found a simple but a little tiresome way to get my emails back to my outlook.
Here it is:
1. Sign in your XXX@att.net account, go to options and add all your non-att or yahoo email accounts, both sent and receive.
2. Follow the instruction on ATT's webpage that shows how to add your XXX@att.net email account to your outlook. Easy.
3. Cancel your original account settings for your non-att emails on your outlook. Only leave the att.net email account or any other yahoo.com email accounts.( This step is not necessary. I just want to make my outlook tidy.)
4. Go to your online XXX@att.net account, and sych all your added email accounts. Then your outlook will sych automatically. If not, you press the send and receive button on your outlook.
This method is not as convinient as the old time when I used comcast. But it gets me all the emails from my several gmail accounts with one shot.

Hi, I was having the same issue with setting up the att.net account on my ipad and my 2010 outlook but it finally worked, this is what I did and it worked both times:
Don’t ask me why this works as I wouldn’t be able to give a reason:
Before starting to setup your outlook log into your att email account using a web browser and stay logged in while you’re setting up your outlook then use the instruction provided in the other post:
"
From the E-Mail Settings Page
1. Incoming Mail Server = inbound.att.net
2. Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) = outbound.att.net
3. User Name = myusernam@att.net
4. Password = Entered valid password
5. Select Remember Password Checkbox
6. Click Advance Options... push-button
From the Internet E-Mail Outgoing Server Tab
1. Check the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication Checkbox
2. Select the Log on using radio button
3. Enter User Name as in (Item 3. above)
4. Enter Password as in (item 4. above)
5. Select Remember Password Checkbox
6. Click the Advanced Tab
From the Internet E-Mail Advanced Tab
1. Incoming server (POP3) = Enter 995
2. Select the This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) checkbox.
3. Outgoing server (SMTP) = Enter 465
4. Select SSL from the Use the following type of encrypted connection: pull down menu
5. Click the OK push-button"
