I set SpamGuard so that any spam goes to my spam folder/box and is immediately deleted. This worked fine for awhile. This week the spam still goes to the spam folder/box but is not immediately deleted. A message box says the spam will be deleted once a month. Is this now a default? I've re-set my settings, saved, re-booted the computer but the spam is not immediately deleted. I called AT&T technical support who could not resolve the issue. How can this be resolved (or is it due to current site maintenance)?
(I am also receiving much more spam than usual. I was trying to send E-mails to France but the server in France blocked Yahoo/AT&T E-mails because of all the spam attached to the ISP address. I had to start using gmail to get messages through. I hope the Yahoo server filters can be improved!)

Welcome yatra. I'm sorry to hear about the ongoing email trouble. Since this is account specific, please send me a Private Message with your name, account number, phone number and the best time to contact you. We'll get you in touch with the group that can look into it.
*To send a private message, you can either click on the link in this message or click on the little blue envelope in the upper right hand corner, click "compose new message" and type my username in the "Send To" field.

1. I selected the spam deletion after one week option.. More than a week has passed and the spam has still not been deleted. What is the default time frame for spam deletion?
3. I have received over 300 spam E-mails in one week which is excessive.Filters are time consuming to set up and limited to 500. Is Yahoo able to set its filters based on an E-mail subject line rather than an E-mail address (i.e.any E-mail with Viagra, Enlarge, Enlargement, etc.in the subject line is likely spam)? If not, what is being done to strengthen Yahool filters?
3, Will the immediate deletion of spam option be enabled again, and if so, when? If not, I would like to "cast my vote" to have it enabled again! It would be helpful to update the Yahoo topic sites related to spam so everyone can find the "new rules".

I also have my spam folder set to immediately delete and it used to work but for a period of a month or so lately it never deletes them, whether I have it set to immediately or 1 week etc..
How can this be fixed

Spam was not a problem for many years, but for the last two years or so, it has greatly increased. Most has gone directly into Spam folder, but some to Inbox. At first, it was just annoying. I simply blocked addresses, or marked things Spam, and let the box empty on its own, weekly. But sometimes mail I actually want goes to Spam instead, so I always check it. When Spam volume suddenly spiked, and turned vulgar, I set SpamGuard to delete immediately about two months ago. It worked for just three days, then the same spam began to show up again. I then created 15 different filters to catch vulgar titles and send them to trash. Reset SpamGuard, yet again, to empty immediately, but it has never worked since.
In fact, I just opened email and saw, yet again, another 29 spam messages in the Spam folder, which reads directly above them: You have chosen to immediately delete all messages that SpamGuard identifies as spam. This guarantees that your Spam folder will remain empty.
Really? What does it take to make the filters work? My computer is just for my use, I have proper safeguards installed, I don't visit sites to encourage spam and trash, yet there it is, Spam for breakfast, lunch and supper every day.
I have read nearly all the advice in the support sections, to no avail. Decided to try the forums, and read that others have this problem, too. Yahoo, please fix this.

Below is an E-mail I received back from an AT&T/Yahoo representative with responses to some of my questions. The answers unfortunately do not solve the excessive and increasing spam issue or not being able to set a spam deletion preference (that works!) myself.
"I have read that the option for the immediate deletion of spam, if set by the user, has been disabled. Will that option be enabled again, and if so, when? If not, I would like to "cast my vote" to have it enabled again"
This is true, this has been disabled and there is no ETR for this feature. Yahoo has been doing updates to their mail platform and some of these features have been modified.
"I selected the spam deletion for one week. More than a week has passed and the spam has still not been deleted. What is now the
default time frame for spam deletion?"
I believe it is 10 days but manually deleting it from the Spam folder is still an option and recommended
until the changes have been made permanent.
"I have received over 300 spam E-mails in one week which is excessive.Filters are time consuming to set up and limited to 500. Is Yahoo able to set its filters based on and E-mail subject line rather than an E-mail address (i.e.any E-mail with Viagra, Enlarge,
Enlargement, etc.in the subject line is likely spam)? If not, what is being done to strengthen Yahool filters?"
As I mentioned before Yahoo has been updating their platforms and that includes their features. We do not have updates
on what Yahoo is doing to strengthen their Spam filters. Spam is generally sent based on forms the consumer fills out online or blogs, memberships and credit card forms filled out. I would suggest setting up a free email account and when giving out an email address provide this one.

Thanks for the advice. I read that, too, and am thinking about creating at least one separate email account, but I also have a work email address. It's extra time and effort to manage multiple accounts - time I don't have. ATT customers deserve better. In this day and age, there is a LOT of money riding on internet use. It seems reasonable to keep customers happy. Hope they they ge those new platforms up and running soon. Beyond that, if SpamGuard or other functions no longer work as stated, those options and information posted about them ought to be changed to reflect that.
