Terrible Ping (Lantency)

Currently have AT&T Uverse in California with the 6mbps advertised internet speed. For the past couple of weeks my ping has been completely unstable. This problem has never occurred until now.

(note: Ping can be at 500+ at times)

These test were done in a short time frame and as you can see the numbers vary greatly.

Has anyone encountered this problem?

I have the same experience - some days ping www.google.com is 25ms, right now it is 250ms.
