Just a quick word to advise that I do not like this new email system!! Why can't you leave well enough alone? AT&T email powered by yahoo is a terrible thing!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why do I have to keep looking at ads on the right hand side of my email page and then have to click it closed every time I look at a new email????? Why am I getting kicked out to sign in again to verify that I am on there????!!!!! I'm not sure what company/ceo/exec. got the pat on the back and the big bonus for this but its got me looking at other ISP's!!!!!!!! I tried to email the above message to someone at AT&T but was given a bogus email address by tech support!!!! I tried to find an email address on any of AT&T's sites, for an executive, to NO avail! The execs. hide behind their VM's and don't have the cajones to list their emails as well.

I experienced the same thing when my mail page was changed to the new AT&T Yahoo! Mail version. I really did not like the ads on the right panel as well. But I believe that this change was a business decision. Nowadays, most sites display ads.

I also learned that it can easily be fixed. When I called AT&T, they had me change to the Classic Mail version instead. Here are the steps that they gave me:

1. Login to your Mail page.

2. Click on 'Options' on the upper-right corner of the Mail page.

3. Then select 'Switch To Classic Mail Version'.

When they changed to the Powered by Yahoo! Mail version, I was confused with the new format. How about you? Which part of the email system got you frustrated?

I am still on the process of familiarizing myself with the new buttons and links. And I realized that it's actually user-friendly the more I use it. I am now starting to like the change.

The new e-mail sytem works for me too. There could just be an issue with your browser. Why don't you try to upgrade your browser or clean it up by deleting those cache and cookies.

A couple months ago I was checking my Bellsouth mail. Bellsouth got reabsorbed into AT&T a while back. It offered me a chance to use Yahoo as well. I figured heck, why not, I also have a Yahoo account. sigh... What it did was switch me to an all new suckier version of Webmail... and I was informed I can't go back. Great. Doing this also required I change my passwords, and use a password system I don't like. Whatever. Okay I did that. So now I get a Yahoo lite on my AT&T page. By itself this would be mildly annoying. But it isn't Yahoo. When I log into REAL Yahoo, I can sign out and sign in on another account, say my Mom's or Wife's. The At&T fake Yahoo only lets you sign into AT&T Fake yahoo, no matter how you get there. So whereas before I could have two brower tabs open, one with Bellsouth and one with Yahoo. Now I cannot. AND, if I want to check both, I need to sign out of AT&T fake Yahoo and go to my bookmarks or type in yahoo.com. Why? I don't know. These restrictions seem only designed to infuriate me. Is there any good reason for them. The tech support (all in India.. not exactly American Telegraph and Telephone any more) could not give me a good reason other than that is what the system allows? Remember when computers served our needs rather than the reverse. Rant over.

Wow! This happened to me too! I completely understand why you are so frustrated by this change. I would like to share you the information I got from one of AT&T's tech support agent when I called them about this exact issue.

It looks like AT&T/Bellsouth encourages us to move/change to the new AT&T Mail Powered by Yahoo version. Their new password format has to have numbers and letters, so I had to change my email password too. Sigh...

For you to login to the free Yahoo! email ID, you need to type www.yahoo.com on the address bar. Then login using your normal free Yahoo! ID.

And for you to login to your Bellsouth email ID, you need to go to http://att.yahoo.com website. You have to login using the complete email ID (including @ bellsouth.net).

I believe that we cannot login to both free Yahoo! ID and Bellsouth (changed to Powered by Yahoo!) at the same time because they are using the same Yahoo! server.

Why is my mail system (on my mac) receiveing duplicate emails for over a year ago...I've had 1157 so far...and some are rather large files. It will take 2 or 3 hours to download all those emails again. Wow...this new system is awsome!! (sarcasm)

It is possible that your MAC Mail is setup to leave copies of your emails on the server; that is why you are receiving duplicate emails.

Try checking the MAC Mail settings.

1. Open the MAC Mail Program.
2. From the MAC Mail toolbar on top, click on 'Mail'.
3. Select the 'Preferences' option. Then click on the 'Accounts' icon.

4. Go to the 'Advanced' Tab.
If you want your messages to be deleted from the AT&T Yahoo! Mail server after you have received them in MAC Mail, check the box "Remove copy from server after retrieving a message:".

5. Then hit 'OK' to save the settings. Try sending yourself a test email and check if it will still be duplicated.

Hope these steps will help solve your issue.

at first "change" is really terrible specially if the page looks totally different from the old one .. but i used it everyday, now i really enjoyed it .. lots of new feature on the new homepage like chat with friends who is logged in to their email .. and also i can send cellphone messages using my email .. i also customized my homepage like change the colors and deleted some tab that i dont need ..

I agree with this - we hate the new email yahoo - why in the world we were forced to change to this system is beyond me!! We kept ignoring the reminders to upgrade(?) to yahoo and then it was done automatically. One of the reasons we changed to AT&T was we were fed up with AOL, and now we're stuck with an even worse system! Why try to fix something that isn't broken????? PLan to "TRY" to go back to classic system..............

Yeah, this is a very poor implementation. I have experienced this and feel that either Yahoo or AT&T have really dropped the ball (or maybe both of them have). I also use GMail for a personal email account, and the school that I take classes through piggybacks its email off GMail as well. I can have separate windows open for each of them with no interference between them.

The new "Send Verify" system is time-consuming, inconvenient, and superfluous. If I am sending a reply, for example, to an email I have received from someone on my Contact List, it should be obvious that the reply is not spam. Why should it need verification? This system almost doubles the amount of time needed to sort through and respond to emails I've received. It is enough to make me move toward the use of another service. Upgrades are not always improvements, with Microsoft's "Vista" program among the most notable recent examples. This "upgrade" falls into that category, in my opinion. There are other problems that I have experienced with the new system that have also increased the time I must spend on email; time that I consider wasted because of this "upgrade", especially in light of how usable and efficient the previous system was. I am reacting to these inconveniences, finally, because I was waiting to see if AT&T would work out the problems inherent in integrating a new system. Instead of doing that, though, you have added more problems to the mix, making it entirely likely that my wife and I will be changing our carrier for phone and Internet service, especially in light, as well, of the high cost of using AT&T; costs that are reflective of relatively high quality, expansive service, but which represent a situation where the increased amount of time needed to negotiate the use of the system represents a diminishing return, given the cost to us of the that time. This new system, in short, is much worse than the old one. You broke something that didn't need to be fixed.

you could try turning off the spam protection first and then log out of the email. log back in and then try to send a reply test email. see if it removed the "send verification" prompt. then try to reactivate the spam protection to filter future spam again. hopefully this will refresh the settings and not prompt you anymore for "send verification" alert.

I can't believe that I pay for AT&T service and they dumped my emails to what amounts to be a free email account with advertisements and increased spam! I don't understand how they consider this an 'upgrade'!!!!???? I already had a yahoo account for junk mail. This is such a shame to treat paying customers this way.

are you referring to the new email format of at&t mail page? if you do not like the ads appearing on the right side of the screen, you may go back to the classic mail version.

just click on OPTIONS --> SWITCH TO CLASSIC MAIL.

hopefully this is what you wanted.

This ATT upgrade to the website does not help me with navigating the internet. There is much more commercials dancing on the web page everytime I open to check my email. It takes 3 or more steps to check my emails and to change from one email to the other because I have to sign in and sign out to get to the other emails. It was much simpler before with BellSouth. I don't like to hear or see the word upgrade from AT&T because that means changing to something more complicated. Upgrades are not for the customers, I think. It seems to be for advertisements. Three clicks to check my mail after I log in, peppered with ads for crap I neither want or need, over 100 spam filters GONE, a host of other functions that don't work..... I used to get 20 to 30 spam emails a MONTH with the old system, now I'm getting 15 to 20 a DAY! I can safely say some of you other users have noticed this as well, it's almost as if my email address had been sold to the spammers by my once beloved service provider. If I had wanted Yahoo, I would have just signed into the FREE account I never use. As a long time BellSouth customer I have watched the steady decline in the quality of service since their misbegotten aquisition by at&t. Did they consult the people who tragically pay their salaries before force feeding us this load of cyber poop? Who am I kidding. Some half lit, cigar chomping suit chugging around mindlessly in a golf cart apparently had a brilliant idea of how to increase revenues. The tech support people have no idea of how the new software works, so you get to idle on hold waiting for a 'Yahoo transition specialist' who then tells you you to turn your spam filter off if it's canning mail from your contacts...... Briliiant!!! Then they have the stones to solicit your celluar business..... YIKES! Puh-leeze, let me outta here ! Oh yeah, did mention the link they give you for 'upgrade feedback' takes you directly to a .......... 404 - PAGE NOT FOUND ERROR!

I understand how you feel. However, there is really "no single solution" to stop spam emails. But you know, I rarely get spammed; want the trick? Use the "Mark as Spam" button ALWAYS. I think the more frequent you use, the more efficient it will work. About the ads, I think it's more of a marketing strategy. What I do to get away with it is to switch my email to "Classic Mail." The Classic Mail has a less distracting advertisement, and works great for me! Hope this helps you.

Here's a tip to keep from toggling forward & back every time you want to delete spam or empty the trash folder. RIGHT click the link for empty trash or spam, select 'open link in new tab' or 'open link in new window', click, empty, & close. I know this is a bit clunky, but I didn't write this software, I'm (we're) just being forced to live with it. For me anyway, this is more streamlined than toggling back & forth between my Inbox and the maintenance I want to perform. In other news, I've been shopping for another provider & found a company that provides DSL internet, local & long distance phone and expanded basic cable for $74.99 a month. The price is guaranteed for 1 year (it saves me over $40 a month plus I get cable) & is capped at $99.95 (still less than at&t for internet & phone alone). So some time this week i'll be setting up an install, porting my home phone number to the new provider & converting my BellSouth ADSL account to dial up ($20+/-) for a couple of months so I can transfer my banking, shopping, EFTs & other stuff to my new email address. I guess if they're not interested in customer satisfaction, I'll send the message via the old pocketbook (a little over $1400 a year from me)...... Now if there were just a few thousand more dissatisfied customers who were tired of being ignored......

I do use the 'mark as spam' button, since the filter is, allegedly, a learning filter. The specific problem I was having involved having mail I had previously received without issue being marked as spam & diverted. The mail came from, ironically, two users (members) of a yahoo group I am also a member of. I get mail from about 60 or so members of this group but only two members were affected. The 'tech support' solution to this problem was to advise me to turn my spam filters OFF. The initial increase in spam occurred on the day of the transition between noon CST & 4:00 PM & has continued with respite. Going from 30 spam messages a month to 150 a week (600 a month) is a significant increase in spam, wouldn't you agree? This was NOT a gradual increase (over weeks or months), but happened literally in a few hours. Although I lost ALL of the 150 or so of the VERY EFFECTIVE filters I had written over the years, there is only one logical explanation for the sudden increase in spam volume, particularly after examining the TYPE of spam I am now receiving. My email address is the same, what's different are the mail servers & at&t's new partner. Call me paranoid if you will, but this new spam is REMARKABLY SIMILAR to the junk I get in my yahoo mailbox as well as the gmail box I used to sign up for the yahoo group. Coincidence ? Perhaps......

Tragically, there is no escape. For some insane reason (perhaps to DECREASE their market share) at&t decided to slap loyal paying customers in the face by hosting a yahoo adbot. So you end up with a clunky, bloated, slow loading webmail interface, that has a fraction of the functionality of the old interface (try displaying incoming messages as 'plain text'). I'm getting 20 times the spam I was getting just two days ago. If you have a yahoo account compare the spam you get there (for free) with the spam you're now paying to get from at&t. Hmmmmm...... interesting parallel. It would have been fine if there was a 'take it or leave it' option, or if we were generously compensated for being forced to view the constant bombardment of mindless ads (let's reduce those monthly charges at&t!), but no such luck. I'm in the process of retaining another provider (& saving $40 a month) for phone, cable, & more internet bandwidth. Since I've had my email address for over seven years, it's going to be a bit of a pain, but I can suffer for a month or two while I change everything over or suffer twice a day for eternity while I try to check my email. Did I forget to mention the new interface has pretty colors & smiley faces?

If I'd wanted a yahoo email account with all of the crap that you have to wade through, I would have signed up for one. This is not an "upgrade" is AT&T passing off what was a halfway decent online emal service, to a complete garbage system. I will be taking all of my AT&T business elsewhere as soon as it is prudent to do so. Has anyone tried to send AT&T an email to complain? Don't bother it can't be done. I was in an on line chat with one of their reps and she gave me 3 links that were supposed to allow customers to send emails. One is a page that no longer exists and the other 2 took me to the AT&T self help, which appears to have a link to send an email, but in reality it takes you to a circular path of links, none of which as the info to send an email to AT&T. AT&T must be doing their best to out do Microsoft in the "what can we do to screw our customers now, to see how many actually put up with it" contest.
