how do you access your swbell.net email account? is it thru the att webmail or a client program like outlook?
did they say if the swbell.net account has been suspended? i believe that att accounts cannot be removed from the mail server, they can either be re-registered or renamed to a free @yahoo.com account.
if the swbell has been suspended, you may still have access to your emails by renaming it to free yahoo.

hmmm... let's try this.
try to go to att.yahoo.com website. click on the 'PLEASE SIGN IN' link on the upper-right corner. then login using your swbell.net account. it might either give you a message that your email has been suspended, in this case, just click on the TRANSFER button to transfer your account to free yahoo. ex. firstname.lastname@example.org will become email@example.com
in some cases, it will allow you to login without getting an error. in this case, your email has been converted to the free att email.

or you may also try going to the site www.yahoo.com and then login using the complete @swbell.net account. see if it allows you to view your emails. in this case, the att system automatically transferred your account to yahoo already.

it gave you the same error on both sites? att.yahoo.com and yahoo.com?
make sure you include www on yahoo site. www.yahoo.com so that it won't be recognized as a possible att login. sometimes that happens.
go to www.yahoo.com and then login using the @swbell.net account.
NOTE: just type the first portion of your swbell email.
ex. firstname.lastname@example.org, just type akee and password.

You may try clearing your browser's temporary internet files first just to make sure.
If you are using the Internet Explorer (IE) browser, just try these steps:
1. Click on 'Tools'. (on the upper-portion of the browser) --> Select 'Internet Options'.
2. Click on 'Delete Cookies' and 'Delete Files' buttons.
Note: If you do not have the above options, try the ff:
Click on the 'Delete' button under Browsing History. Then check the boxes for 'Cookies' and 'Cache'. Then click on 'Delete' again.
3. Hit OK.
4. Close and re-open the IE browser.
Then go to www.yahoo.com to login using the @swbell.net account.
NOTE: i forgot, if you are in www.yahoo.com, do not include the @swbell.net anymore. just the login id.
ex. email@example.com, just type akee and your password.

i cant think of any other possible solution. did you try again to login at att.yahoo.com using your swbell account? are you still geting the same error?
if yes, then there is no other way to access your mailbox if it is not accessible thru the www.yahoo.com site too. sad that you won't see the emails saved in the inbox anymore.

i am so sorry to tell you this keeverjr but it seems that your swbell.net account has already been deactivated. the fact that second tier support group cannot do anything about it, that is surely be a dead end. you might just need to move on and create a new email account for Uverse.

it seems to be in a limbo...
i have another suggestion though. try calling the tech support once more, ask for the second level of support. ask them if they can just deactivate the new @att.net email ID that you have associated with the U-Verse service and then re-register the old @swbell.net account so that you can still have access to that old ID.
my friend had AT&T DSL before and then moved to a new location with same dsl service. this happened to him too. he was given a new email ID even though he wants to keep using the old ID. the second level was able to update his account and used the same email ID. i hope they can do the same thing with dsl to uverse change.

i am not really sure what had happened to your existing swbell account. it would be better if you contact again the AT&T second tier support team and ask them to reactivate your swbell.net account. one of my friends have tried this process before and it worked. let them know that you only wanted to use your existing swbell e-mail adress and that you really need to access again your message on that account. I hope that they will eventually resolve this issue.
